Re: Week 8 Fairland (0-7) @ Coal Grove (3-4)

Hiring the next guy who walks through the door with "college coaching" on his resume has worked well for Fairland. It worked well for Portsmouth, too.

Re: The Mayor's Plan for 24-team TVC

I think JAX is pretty much screwed in the conference game unless they look north. Some of those teams (Marietta, Gallipolis, Athens, Meigs, River Valley) left the SEOAL at some point; getting away from the monster that is JAX football was likely a big part of that. I doubt that ANY of those above sc...

Re: Hocking College- first 2 year college in OH to play foot

^^^^^^ I think Hocking hopes that an increase in full-time enrollments will pay for the program. If they recruit kids who wouldn't have dreamed of coming to Hocking w/o football, it'll all be new money. And even if we don't buy tickets to watch the team, we will fund it through the Pell Grants which...

I was the lucky kid who played in the fifth varsity game of his senior year as he turned 17 then was in the dorms at college three-a-days a month before turning 18...

I cannot imagine what playing my senior year of HS ball at 18-19 would have been compared to 16-17.

^^^^^ Pol Pot, you are bang on correct. Only the biggest of the big boys make money, and that's kinda the Catch-22. Everybody wants champagne, but ya cant drink bubbly on a Keystone Light budget

Re: Hocking College- first 2 year college in OH to play foot

Lest I be called a hater... I honestly think that having JUCO football in Ohio would be a great thing. I have known too many boys who have chased the dream of college football to one of this state's million-and-a-half liberal-arts schools, taking out big loans to pay for it, then realizing any combi...

Re: Hocking College- first 2 year college in OH to play foot

I hope that they can be successful, but the recruiting questionnaire is handled through LeagueLineup, a site designed for pee-wee leagues.

If the start-up budget doesn't allow for a proper Web Site... that's a BAD omen.

Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO

Better competition will only make the SOC2 better in the long run. That is only true if a program has lots of other factors already aligned in its favor (coaching, administrative support). Otherwise, it can just lead to a bunch of bad defeats and a death spiral for a middle-of-the-road or worse pro...

My first response was "Why in the Hell would he want to leave D-1 football at GT to be the coach at Vinton County?"

Then I looked up his salary as DoFO at GT.

I stand corrected.

"Dundas wrote:
Coach Mendes is running the weightroom even though his future on the staff is a question mark. Imo, the fact he is this dedicated to the program, he should be retained by the new head coach."

That situation never ends well for the dedicated guy.

That's what happens when you let the band do all that stuff on the football field; they just tear it up.

Oh wait, the Jackson Band isn't allowed to practice on the turf...

Re: New Coach at Vinton County?

As far as I have heard, Justy Burleson is still the head football coach at VC.

Why don't people keep their speculations about "new coaches" to their private messages, instead of undermining next season?

From what I hear, it would be pointless for anybody to apply until after Phillips decides he doesn't want it.
