Tornado reality
the pictures this spring have been amazing and disturbing 1500 people still missing in Joplin and the NWS has now comfirmed it as a EF5 EF5 winds are usually in the 200 to 250 mph and in some cases higher. and that brings to me this. If someone doesn't have a basement or a real tornado shelter, I do...

Re: Severe Thunderstorm Watch (until 7pm EDT)
Kantucky, believe it or not. a warm boundry layer can limit severe thunderstorm chances unless there is decent wind shear and a frontal boundry to clash with. Right now there is a warm front over SE Ohio. even with the heat and humidity at the surface. storms are having a hard time developing becaus...

Re: Severe Thunderstorm Watch (until 7pm EDT)
Strong storms extending from Duncan Falls to Reedsville. other storms are trying to develop between Logan and Jackson but having a hard time of it. The key area to watch is Northern Ohio. if the storms around Mansfield and Findlay organize into an MCS bow shape line, momentum will take them SSE down...

Re: Severe Thunderstorm Watch (until 7pm EDT)
I wouldn't go as far as to say rain will miss you for sure. You are fairly close to the watch area. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means that conditions are favorible for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. it may or may not happen. but conditions are there. we will have to see if anyt...

Severe T Storm watch along and sw of Route 35 (until 8pm EDT
Heads up. These storms are building from Northern Kentucky back up to Dayton and Indy. The atmosphere is very unstable and I wouldn't be surprised if a tornado spins up somewhere. North and east of Athens the atmosphere is not as prime with a degree of subsidence. Thunderstorms outside of the watch ...

Re: Alabama Tornaodes
The death toll is just so sad.
The watches and warnings were issued in a timely manner. Tornado sirens were going off.
But not everyone can be saved from EF5 250+ mph winds. not much can be done about that.

concerned about flooding this weekend and middle next week
You know how droughts can be hard to shake and seem to linger. The same thing can sometimes be said about a wet weather pattern. After the 1 to 3 inches of rain since Monday. creeks are running high in many areas. The next low pressure system developing in the rocky mountains will track northeast ac...
