Re: SE District Athletes at State Meet
Wes Cochran from Warren finished 2nd in his region in the 3200. He was just 10 seconds behind state cross country champion Tsaye Hiluf.

Re: Pay to Play?
But using your example of soccer being the least expensive and football the most expensive, in most cases soccer generates little revenue (probably just about enough to pay the game officials) while football primarily and basketball secondarily usually are the big money makers that allow the other ...

Re: OHSAA proposes spring ball
Peake - I started coaching in 1990. College and high school. While we're throwing out academic pedigrees, in addition to coaching, I am also an Exercise Physiologist. M.S. degree. We've been plenty successful. Our teams win. Shoved away in a drawer somewhere are several coach of the year awards at b...

Re: 2011 Warren Warriors
It will all be fine. There are some sports at the school that don't have any assistants to begin with, so I am sure everyone will learn to make do with what they have and be just fine.

Re: OHSAA proposes spring ball
No, winning does not require sacrifice. It requires choices. There is a difference. Sacrifice is when you give up something you'd rather do for somethig you'd rather not do, because of someone else. Choice is when you decide to do something because you prefer it or the long term benefit to the alter...

Re: OHSAA proposes spring ball
Ridiculous proposal. As if athletics isn't already out of perspective and overboard in this country. What's wrong with letting the kids head down to the corner lot and tossing the ball around on their own. Why do we have to contantly over-administrate every little thing. We wonder why we no longer h...

Re: OHSAA proposes revising way schools are placed in divisi
You want to talk about disparities...in some sports in OHSSA, there are schools with 350 boys trying to compete with schools with 1100 boys...insanity.

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
"...The SOC is too small for Gallia and Jackson. Ironton will stay independent. I do not see the TVC inviting Warren. I think the SEOAL will be around, even if it is 4 schools, Warren, Portsmouth, Jackson, and Gallia..." A 4 team SEOAL would stink for many sports, because that would mean ...

Re: Warren Local BOE considering pay to play
I'll vouch for the fact that the coach of my son's team puts a good portion of his coaching salary back into the program to buy uniforms, warmups, food, equipment, team t-shirts, awards, and more for the team. Things that the school cannot or will not buy. I also know that he pays his assistant coac...

Re: Warren Local BOE considering pay to play
According to Warren's website, there is some discrepancy between this article and the Warren BOE's own information. http://www.warrenlocal.k12.oh.us/bond_issue/Possible_Reductions_Summary.pdf coaching supplemental contracts amount to $91.825.00, not the $180,000 mentioned in the article. "I ima...

Re: 65th OVAC/Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Classic
Article in newspaper in Wheeling indicates that this game is losing over $13,000 a year. It cost $49000 to house and feed the players last year, and that is expected to go up 30% this year. A charity game that loses $13,000 a year isn't much of a charity.

Re: SEOAL 2010
But here is the math I have been given by those in administration: 10 assistant coaches at $3500 each + 1 head coach at $6500 = $42,000 Equipment, Support= $600 per player x 60 players = $36,000 Ancillary costs (travel, officials, etc) = $5,000 TOTAL = $83,000 So if we use the numbers you provide = ...
