Re: Regional Semi
Wheelersburg is probably better at every position except for pitcher and catcher. Wheelersburg is the better hitting team. Wheelersburg is the better fielding team. BUT they'll be facing a D1 caliber pitcher and good pitching beats good hitting. Not that Wheelersburg's pitcher isn't good but she's o...

Re: Regional Semi: Wood (8-0) Burg (7-1)
I watched a replay of the Tingle kid getting injured. There was nothing dirty about the play AT ALL. He got hurt on an inside running play but stayed in the game, ran the ball again and got stood up by a D lineman, a second D lineman came over and assisted in the tackle and they all fell on him. The...
Re: Region 19
Ironton is two scores better than any of the top teams in this region. Sure things can happen; COVID, injuries, mistakes, homers...ect but they are a notch better than all the teams in this region if they play their game. Kirtland, Ironton & Roger Bacon are probably the best teams in D-5 this ye...

Re: Ironton @ Wheelersburg 1/11
A little surprised at the lack of comments about this game. I know everyone was not at the Beasts of the Southeast. Was it just a back and forth game, a great defensive game or what ? It's very rare that any team can hold the Burg to 47 pts, especially on there home floor. I’ll comment on it. Burg ...

Re: Week 12 WOOD BURG
The Pirates have found a way to get it done this year. The defense had trouble against Ashland and Waverly so the offense stepped it up and out scored them. The offense struggled against Minford in the first half last night so the defense stepped up and held them to 3 points in the half. Both units ...

Re: What Will Fed Hock be doing next fall?
Someone who knows the rules can clarify this: Can kids play football at a neighboring school district while still attending Fed Hock since they no longer have a football team? I was thinking that Middletown Madison had kids come play for them when a nearby school district stopped their football prog...

Re: WK: 11 #6 Minford (7-3) @ #3 Wheelersburg (7-3)
The Burg coaches have done a tremendous job with this year’s Pirates. The team seems to have found an identity and are playing with much more confidence. Minford losing to Oak Hill was a head scratcher. I think this is two teams going in different directions and Burg will be able to handle the Falco...

Re: When do we hear Northwest shouldn't be playing in the SOC1?
Congrats to Northwest. They are in SOC 1. Until they are moved to SOC2. Sour grapes on anyone that bad mouths where they’re at, these kids had no say , these are high school kids and I say go for all the gusto you can and have fun. Who cares if someone doesn’t like what these kids are doing and hav...

Re: When do we hear Northwest shouldn't be playing in the SOC1?
Northwest should be in SOC II, they have too many kids to play in SOC I. The kids in the other SOC I schools are getting cheated out of a championship. That's what I'm saying. I'm not talking about blowing teams out, that happens sometimes. The small D6 & D7 schools can't compete against a scho...

Re: Week 6: SOCII Burg @ Minford
I honestly think it’s a bit premature to start shoveling dirt on the Pirates grave. That was a D3, playoff caliber, undefeated team The Burg was going against last week. This team still has speed all over the field and one of the best coaching staffs in SEO. Count them out at your peril. This is the...

Re: Week 6: SOCII Burg @ Minford
Not the start to the first half of the season any Burgites expected but all of the team’s goals are still in front of them: win the SOC, qualify for the playoffs, win a playoff game, win the region, win the state. *Some of those goals are optimistic but every team should have them. The young guys ha...

Re: WK5 JACKSON. vs THA BURG ‘19
The Pirates have played 3 power running teams this season and have given up 30, 44 and 33 points against those teams. There are plenty of reasons for the defensive lapses : Horsley getting hurt, a too good Hartley team, holding calls being missed etc.. the fact is the d-line needs to mature/get bett...

Re: Wheelersburg 34 Ashland 33
The Pirate’s offense found their identity tonight. Having Mathews back helped...ALOT. They had a rhythm going out there. Much like the 2010 team game three seems to have been the game they put things together. There’s been a lot of talk on here about the special teams calls the coaches made. I under...

Re: WK3 Ashland (KY) @ Wheelersburg
IMO Wheelersburg lost to two teams that will be playing deep into the playoffs. No shame in that. I do think that Wheelersburg needs to win 2 of the next 3 to qualify for the playoffs. *I feel a little like Jim Mora talking about the playoffs with the team being 0-2 but that's where we are. I'm sure...

Re: Regional Final: Wheelersburg vs Harvest Prep
Good Luck today Pirates. I know that Prep shoots the three extremely well but in my opinion I’d have all five defenders with one foot in the paint. Make them shoot those threes all night. And walk it up on offense. Cut the game in half.
Go Burg!

Re: Regional Final: Wheelersburg vs Harvest Prep
Prep has more talent at every position but one. They also have players that come off the bench with more talent. BUT superior talent can be beaten by playing fundamental basketball. Set good picks, box out, run your offense, have good floor balance, make your free throws, stay between your man and t...

Re: WK 2: Wheelersburg @ Columbus Bishop Hartley
In an interview a few years ago the Hartley coach said that his philosophy was to 'outnumber' the defense at the point of attack. Just send so many blockers on the sweep that the defense has trouble getting thru them all and the RB picks his hole and darts thru it. I'd say that philosophy still hold...
