Re: Division IV District Semi-Final (Jackson)
The TVC Hocking has had two outstanding teams, Waterford and Eastern, for several years. SOC I has no team that can compete at the same level. Over the last few years, Eastern and Waterford have been "state quality" (unfortunately for them ... Harvest Prep). Eastern stumbled a little this ...

Re: TVC VS SOC ... ?
I've had the opportunity to follow my daughter through 4 years of basketball. She did not play AAU. But she had fun and learned a lot about competition, dedication, and leadership. Sometimes I think we parents (especially dads) try to live too much through our children. Many girls (not all, mind you...

Fan,
I missed your post. I'm pleased that they pulled Lake Ridge before they got too deep in the tournament.

Re: TVC VS SOC ... ?
MD, It has nothing to do with genetics in the eastern (TVC) counties. Oak Hill (SOC II) has had a great program for years. South Webster (SOC II, D IV) had a great run the last four years (until this year). For small schools (D IV and D III), the regional and state qualifiers generally fall into two...

Re: #1 Portsmouth Clay vs #2 Reedsville Eastern 3/3
CB #1, I wrote that comment about the ref early in morning when post-game emotions were still pretty high. It was far too personalized and I apologize to you and anyone else who was offended. I still think it was a bad call. Hate to see a senior have to sit so long in her last game. It cost Clay the...

Re: #1 Portsmouth Clay vs #2 Reedsville Eastern 3/3
Unfortunately, Clay girls just laid an egg last night. They tried hard but the shots just didn't fall ... in fact, an unbelievable number didn't even touch the rim. Some of those misses were caused by good defense but others just by the kids not being able to adjust to that big court environment. I ...

Re: info on Waterford.
MD, Waterford beat Clay in the District Finals last year by 36 (it wasn't that close) and could have won the state championship if it weren't for that rogue program at Harvest Prep. They lost at least one very good player (went to U of Akron) from last year but they are still very, very good. Much b...

Re: Reedsville Eastern vs Manchester
93, you might be right but Waterford has made the regional final two of the last three years. This year could be three of four. If they make it to the state semi or final, that could add 20 - 22% to their girl's enrollment. Plus 10% for open boundaries and they will be getting pretty close to the 12...

Re: Reedsville Eastern vs Manchester
Clearly 93 Bulldog, the OHSAA is also concerned with teams (especially small school divisions), like those you mention that seem to find a way to put great athletes on the floor or the field each and every year. While we might attribute success to great coaches and programs, we are all very aware th...

Re: Reedsville Eastern vs Manchester
Clay plays in a very soft conference. Most schools don't have enough girls for a JV team. That's in part how they got to 17 and 5. From what I've seen, the TVC has two outstanding teams (Waterford and Eastern) who are way above others in the league and can compete for a regional or even a state cham...

Re: Reedsville Eastern vs Manchester
EF1, I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that Belpre should have won last night. Clay played an awful first half and had their primary scorer on the bench for most of the second quarter. They outscored Belpre 37 - 16 in the second half to win decisively. After watching the second game, I was...

Re: #1 Portsmouth Clay vs #2 Reedsville Eastern 3/3
Saw both games last night at Jackson. Eastern is high energy and can make you look real bad. If Clay can consistently advance the ball into the front court, avoid the trapping defense, and slow the game down, they can stay competitive. That being said, I don't think they can.

Re: Div IV Records in Northwest Sectional
MD, Clay beat East twice. Webster lost only once to them. "Fluke" is probably not the best term for the Webster-Clay game. Maybe bad matchups for Clay. Clay has had a few of those games this year and it really cost them. Hope I didn't offend any of my Webster friends.

Re: Div IV Records in Northwest Sectional
Clay beat Fairland last night 64-63. Their record is 11 - 5. The Athens sectional is stronger because they have Waterford and Reedsville Eastern. Beyond those two teams ... not much difference. Clay split with Eastern Pike this year. Lost to Webster by a lot but that was a bit of a fluke. Webster ha...

Re: JV games in the SOC1
Significant problem for small schools. Clay cancelled out some of their two-quarter jv games so that they can schedule four-quarter contests with other full-squad jv teams. It would be nice to have a separate jv schedule but cost is apparently prohibitive.

Re: fan behavior???
Complaints about fan behavior, although cathartic, belong in the same category as complaints about the human condition or, for that matter, the weather. Competition incites emotions (anger, joy, relief, etc.) both on the part of players and fans (and officials some times). Some are better equipped t...
