Re: 1/9/24 Portsmouth @ Ironton

The Russell game was an eye opener. First and foremost, I would congratulate the Red Devils on their excellent play. They have some talented young players, and you can tell basketball is important to them. Their future is bright. Ironton, well, not a great night. The Tigers failed to offer enough en...

Ironton freshman Ashton Layne is steadily assembling quite a highlight reel, as he did this Thursday night against Cabelll Midland as part of his 14 point effort: https://x.com/itowntigerhoops/status/1740582789882269972?s=46&t=Jw0NIeUI60K6VzMJm6_hlg https://x.com/irontonbarstool/status/174057511...

Big, fast, and deep. Tigers played 10 in a close first half. That should keep practices competitive and interesting this year. They have some dudes.

Re: Heath @ Ironton

I have attended every Ironton state final game except the second Kirtland battle. Outoftowner’s observations about the Fighting Tigers under Lutz snd Pendleton pretty much coincide with mine. If I were Pendleton going forward, I would be looking at adding some additional expertise to the coaching st...

Re: Heath @ Ironton

I look for this game to be a tight one. If Ironton needs a 6-8 minute drive with the game on the line, can they do it?

These are some names to watch based on summer basketball, subject of course to staying injury-free through football season: Braden Schreck, Jr., 6-3, 18 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg, First Team All-Distrct D2, Special Mention All-Ohio D2 Shaun Terry, Jr., 5-11, 16 ppg, 4 rpg, 4 apg, 52 threes on 44% 3fg, Secon...

Re: 2023 Ironton Tigers

I'm thinking Anderson is D2. One other thing about the Waverly scrimmage, Pittman didn't play due to a stomach virus. Needless to say he wasn't needed in this scrimmage. The scrimmage shoe could be on the other foot for Ironton this weekend at Anderson. The talented Raptors will field a safety comm...

Holtmann perhaps the worst offensive coach in the country. His schemes are out of touch with today’s game.

Ironton 79
Portsmouth 64
Final

Ironton super-sophs lead way - Shaun Terry with 23 points, 5 assists, and Braden Schreck with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. The win (14-6, 10-3) clinches runner-up spot in OVC to South Point.

Re: D3 Tournament Thread

IMO, it was no coincidence that South Point, Fairland, and Portsmouth were all voted into the same district sub-bracket. Nobody outside the OVC wants to face any of those squads in the early rounds.

Re: 2023 Mock Brackets - Pre Draw

No poll is perfect. This Martin RPI is as good as any of the others, though being an Ironton fan, I don’t like the Tigers behind Gallia after beating them twice this year, home and away.

Re: OVC & SOC Merge Talk

Yep, both Ironton and Fairland would be considered AA in WV's three class football system. Many AAA schools will play a game or two against AA schools in WV like Winfield, Poca, Nitro, Pt. Pleasant, or Logan. But it may be too much for the WC schools to bite off.

Re: OVC & SOC Merge Talk

Personally, I would love to see Ironton and Fairland join the Mountain State Athletic Conference (MSAC). They would bring that league to 12 members, and facilitate a very coherent pair of divisions: WEST Cabell Midland Huntington Spring Valley Hurricane Ironton Fairland EAST Capitol George Washingto...

Walk-ons aren’t typically sent to conference meetings in New Orleans to represent their schools. Clearly Marshall thinks highly of Sam Lafon.

Re: WK4 (2-1) Johnson Central (KY) @ (3-0) lronton

Some interesting numbers on Johnson Central - the Golden Eagles have rushed for 1,088 yards in three games out of their wishbone attack, having completed just one pass for 45 yards (for a TD). Top running back Carter Conley was injured in JC's 15-14 loss last weekend to 6A North Laurel, which some b...
