Passing Of Dave Young

I was texted by Nancy, Dave's wife a little bit ago that he has passed away earlier today. Dave was a highly sucessful basketball coach that won over 400 games, numerous league and sectional titles, 3 district championships, and regional championship in 1996. The list of awards he accumulated are le...

Re: Peebles High School- What will the South Point game bring?

Just a few words on South Point. After watching them last week at the Peake against Eastern Brown I was impressed as I have been with any team this year. I know they are not getting a great deal of attention but they are the real deal. Their bigs Prater and the two Taylors are very good. Prater is a...

Re: Northwest gets transfer: Dylan Brown from Peebles

Northwest is getting a good basketball player and an even better person. Dylan will work hard, do whatever is asked of him by his coaches, and be an outstanding teammate. I wish him all the best

Re: Top Jr. High Boys Basketball Players in Southern Ohio

Lightle 04 We won't see you this year, your AD scheduled a different team so best of luck this season. Peebles is playing Piketon and Vinton County in a scrimmage at Piketon before the season and I'm anxious to see the teams. Trent played AAU ball with some of these kids. Isaac Brabson is an excelle...

Re: Who has or had the best old gyms?

Hammerdown Green played in the disbanded Tri-County League w/ Peebles, Eastern Pike, South Webster, Western Latham, and Portsmouth Clay. All-time athlete mentioned the old school rivalries and he/she is dead on accurate. Old Franklin high school in Locust Grove, Winchester, Sinking Spring, these gym...

Re: Who has or had the best old gyms?

I am partial to old Peebles High School with the wooden bleachers, crows nest, and its history. By far the most difficult place to play was North Adams. The gym was a huge home court advantage. Eastern Brown was tough as well, everytime we played there the gym was packed and the game was intense.

Re: SHL Coaching Changes

First of all to clarify:This is Josh Arey, no secret name, no false pretense, and no silly nickname based on foot powder. I have not, and never had intended to file a grieviance. The administration is aware of this because I told them right away. This would be out of character for me, so I had no in...

Congratulations to Vinton County on their undefeated season. It is a great accomplishment and I'm sure Coach Combs and the rest of the community are looking forward to seeing these kids in the future.

It has been interesting to see the debate among these four teams. As the coach of Peebles I have seen Vinton County first hand and can say they have an outstanding team. We did play them over the summer but neither team had their full complement of players and summer basketball is used to develop ki...
