Re: SHL All-League
SHLjunkie, Just to clarify some things. I actually did nominate Drew Bear and Ethan McCarty because both of their stats were almost identical. You needed a certain number of votes to get in and each fell one short. I had no control to decide if they got in as it was a SHL coaching decision as all co...

Re: 12-6 Westfall vs West Union
Buckingred and Job 2:10, Thank you for the advice. I will take it to heart as I do most. I would like to set some things straight though. I think a lot of you guys may be blowing this out of proportion. The only statement that I made was that I thought some of the calls could've went our way. I neve...

Re: 12-6 Westfall vs West Union
The reason why we had to play back to back games this first weekend was because when I was hired it was late. I didn't have much say in the scheduling of games. It wasn't to the point that we didn't have depth, because I can go 9 deep on my bench. I just played those 9 guys a lot Friday night. They ...

Re: 12-6 Westfall vs West Union
West Union had a tough time adjusting to a lot of things today. For one, we did not play that great at all. It was an off night for everyone, which is highly unlikely in most cases. We weren't getting a lot of help from the refs either. And as a coach, I am not making or breaking a game on refs, but...

Re: 12-5 Fairland at West Union
Bucking Red, I appreciate your comment. If dressing up would give you an extra ten points, that game would have been ours. Hats off to our boys lastnight. Everyone played extremely hard. I had four guys in double figures lastnight but we had small mental lapses where we caused some turnovers and tha...

Re: SHL PREVIEW
I appreciate the words of encouragement. From the way it looked in the stands I'm sure it did look as if I was coaching the state finals game. However, that is just my nature. I have a love and passion for the game of basketball and I want to encourage my players to do the same. I express my passion...

Re: SHL PREVIEW
shljunkie, In all respect, I certainly was not trying to coach a tournament game. I am a very intense coach and no matter where it is at, I am never going to set down and just let my kids play, preview or not. As a coach, and the coaching staff is behind me, we are trying to teach our kids disciplin...

Sparky,
I started and finished at Shawnee State University with a BA in Early Childhood Education. I don't remember playing Carson that much in high school. He and I are very good friends.

Re: Foundation Games
Sparky, I have been in the West Union program for the past three years. My first year was a volunteer assistant. I was then moved up to run the Junior High program at West Union the following year. My third year was spent as the Junior Varsity coach and now I am the head coach. In high school, I was...

Re: Foundation Games
Ignert1,
I would have to agree with you on your comment. They seem to like the fast pace tempo.
The Man on The Microphone,
I appreciate the wishes. Hopefully we can instill some very good basketball into the West Union program starting this year, and lasting for years to come.

Re: What is the SHL looking like this year?
Baller1,
We are working extremely hard. It's great to see a change in the program for once. Change that is in attitude and in the style of play. We hope to see you in the stands during some games this year.

Re: Foundation Games
Baller1, Yes Manchester did look very good the other night. I believe West looked a little sloppy given that they haven't had that much practice. Give them time though. As for us, we have a long way to go before we get to where we need to be but the boys are working extremely hard and seem to unders...

Re: Foundation Games
Sparky, We are not as bad as what people are making us out to be for this year. Yes we will have our days and games where nothing will seem to go right, but we are looking to be a sleeper in the league. Williamsburg isn't terrible. They aren't real good either. They are very physical and extremely s...

Re: What is the SHL looking like this year?
West Union had a very balanced scoring effort. Drew Bear was high point man with I believe 19 and had 16 rebounds. The Dragons had four guys in double figures and had two players with 8 and 9 respectfully. The first half was very sluggish for the Dragons, but in the second half we seemed to pick up ...

Re: What is the SHL looking like this year?
The Dragons had a very successful weekend. Friday night the Dragons went to Williamsburg and played. Looked decent but from the way Coach Brewer talked, he didn't like what he had seen. The next morning West Union traveled to Piketon to play Piketon and Dayton Delphos Jefferson (not Dayton Jefferson...

Re: What is the SHL looking like this year?
Yes, Mr. Payne does play for Jefferson. It should be fun to watch him as well as the Dragon post players. Coach Brewer seemed to schedule a decent scrimmage schedule for the sake of the kids at the varsity level. It will be interesting to see how the dragons (who will be starting 6'9, 6'7) will play...

Re: How Is the Shl gonna stack up Next year.
Lynchburg in the big school? I would think this would be a down year for the mustangs. North Adams in my opinion will be one dominate force in the SHL. I also believe that West Union will be a lot better than what people are considering. Coach Brewer has them working hard in the weight room and in o...
