hearts WE (Athens) could've/should've been one of them. Just ain't right and don't make sense.
Guess it's true...we're full of should!

Re: Alexander VS Athens
The question is are they the best or playing up to their potential. Why were certain sophomores on the JV over-looked when they are certainly as good as anyone else on varsity. Are we telling them, thanks, but don't come back next year. Are we using 9th graders to send messages? It's been done in th...

Re: TVC
My guess is she'll end up at Alex before it's all said and done. There are probably two or three others that would follow her....if anyone cares. She's a very good basketball player too from what I have heard...and Alex went pretty far a year back in that sport too. Her older sister was leading scor...

Re: Alexander VS Athens
You got that 100% RIGHT . Athens hasn't seen decent varsity/JV coaching since Edwards/Reed back
in 2001-02 - the year Athens made it to Regionals....correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Athens defeats N-Y
Nelsonville is MUCH improved and looked good against an Athens team that always seems out of sync. Although we took the match we are FAR from playing up to our abilities. A weird mix and no consistent game strategy - that aint gonna work BEYOND the small schools in the TVC. We are a year away from b...

Re: Alexander VS Athens
Not taking anything away from Alex - they are well coached, taught the game, and execute well...it didn't always used to be that way. There used to be volleyball banners hanging in the Athens Gym(other sports too), but that was several years ago now. As an old Athens booster I think its a shame and ...

Re: Alexander VS Athens
The Athens varsity coach raided the JV to prop up mistakes. If they had left the JV team intact the outcome would have been different. Now even the varsity squad is messed up and they seem awkward. They peak in 8th grade because the high school has yet to invest in quality coaching or in developing ...

Re: Why don't we...
It's nice to see that we have so many options.
If some one in the know can list the clubs in the area and approximate cost ?
maybe even a rating?

Re: TVC
To answer the second part of the question, on the JV side look for the Athens JV team to remain undefeated in TVC play. I saw them at the Athens invitational and they are as good as most school's varsity teams....and they've been raided to prop up holes in the varsity squad. Athens also has a bunch ...

Re: Aleta Aces
You got that right. It has been criticized, but I don't see anyone doing it better in the region. It really encourages high level play, kids LEARN - probably more than in their high school/ middle school programs, coaching is knowledgeable and very encouraging, and they shoot for very competitive to...

Re: Why don't we...
I'd have to agree with qualified101 on that point. There are programs that look at volleyball less seriously. So you get a weird mix of participants and coaching decisions that don't make "volleyball" sense. That tends to be a disadvantage for girls that are into the sport. They often loos...

Re: Athens defeated Belpre in three games
One really BIG advantage of joining the TVC.....and with a different starting 6, I believe they could beat Alexander or certainly give them a big headache. Division III schools are just too small to field strong teams and few have the middle school program Athens has had for years. If taken seriousl...

Re: Athens Invite.... Saturday Spet 6th
When you sit at the top row of the stands you see things and can compare. You can also learn something if you care to and that makes you better. It's just a game, but it's nice to see players that have ability !

Building Programs
From what I see there is a ton of rebuilding going on in the area. Competition is uneven
and programs with strong Frosh/Soph players aren't being used effectively with an eye to the future. Athens is a good example.

Re: Athens Invite.... Saturday Spet 6th
Athens struggles because they don't use their talent. The JV did well mostly because they have a girl that is over 6 feet tall playing middle. That makes a big difference. The varsity is too small.
