Anyone interested in a two-mile trail run?

There are numerous 5K road races around but does anyone think there could be any interest in a 2-mile (3200m) offroad dash-style race? I am thinking something along the lines of a small warrior dash (without flames and barbed wire, etc.), up hills and through mud and creeks, etc. as a fundraiser for a local group.
When would be the ideal time of year for something like this? I am thinking halloweenish or late spring/early summer right before XC training officially begins.
I could be open to making it free for local XC kids or putting them in their own class.
