congrats to Gallia and MVW Cole Tawney, i dont think he even gave up a point in the final against Parsons from Warren. Vinton county looking stronger each time i see them had seven top four placers scoring for them but only one champion. Gallia had eight top 4 with 4 champions. Warren looked better than the finsh shows in the score, thought they would be closer than that team wise.

This was a very good tournament and the wrestling was vastly improved this week as compared to what i have scene early season. Several wrestlers impressed me. Congratulations Gallia on your third tourney win of the year. Great meet by Cole Tawney, but i wish they would of done something else with most valuable wrestler. Yea i know he beat Parsons but he also beat Parsons at 120 last year in a dual. Parsons is a great wrestler at 113 but at 120 he is just above average. There was really no one else in this weight class. Cole will have many more accomplishments to put on his wall. I would of liked to scene The wrestler award given to Shoemaker who had a great event and is a senior. Or it could of been given to tyler Knul from circleville a state placer who had a great meet. Or they could of given it to the kid with the disability from Logan Elm who wrestled hard all day.

I just Think Tawney will have so many more moments where he shines greater then this that it could of went to somewhere else today.
No disrespect meant to Tawney or Gallia academy. He is a great wrestler and Gallia ran a class tourney.

Well lets see if we were watching the super bowl and they gave the mvp to the loosing team it would be nuts , as like mvw you give to the guy that brings that team together the guy that without him they cant win this , this is high school wrestling not grade school at some point the kid that deserves the award should get it.I respect what you say but the most valuable wrestler was clearly Tawney .NICE JOB Cole you deserved this , and go Vikes you had a good tourney.

just a note to those who are not familiar with how mvp awards are chosen......the host school does not choose, each teams head coach gets to make a first and second choice vote those votes are counted and whichever wrestler got the most votes wins the award. that being said it would have been hard for gallia to have "done something different with the award". just wanted to say that in fairness to tawney and Gallia. as for my thoughts on it, seoal83 i agree with much of what u say knul did have a great meet as did many other wrestlers ....however........ knul highest decorated wrestler at tourny (8th at state) won his class
parsons second highest decorated wrestler at tourny (state qualifier) lost final to tawney
again just my thoughts no disrepect to anyone , just letting some who read these post understand that host schools dont choose awards.

Which weight class was the toughest at the meet? It looks like there were some great wrestlers there.

If i made it sound like gallia academy chose Tawney i did not mean to. That is why i wrote no disrespect because i was not blaming them. I think Tawney has the ability to finish his career as GAHS best wrestler ever so no disrespect to him either even if he just finishes at same level as Taylor he will of had a great career.

I have been to many tournaments the last 3 years and the wrestler award has very often went to someone besides the home team and besides the winning team. So the Superbowl analogy does not really fit. But if you want to use a football analogy the quarterback is most often the MVP for a season. but many times during the season game balls are awarded to many other players and other players are game MVP's.

I guess my feelings are best summed up with the thought that i think Tawney is such a better wrestler then parsons at 120 lbs. that if he had not dominated it would of been an upset, And that is not true at what Tawney will accomplish every week as season goes on.

There was one other wrestler that i did not mention earlier and that was Jacob price (i think that is the right brother) from chillicothie the way he man handled Lester from Meigs at 138 lbs. was the most impressive performance i saw all day.

And as far as the other goes as far as giving the award to kid from Logan Elm. I don't think it should be done on a regular basis. But it does happen a couple of years ago i know outstanding wrestler award was given to a wrestler who'se mom had died previous week. and their are other examples.

But i think that is enough on the subject. Congratulations Cole Tawney. did not mean to start a controversy.

no controversy here seoal83 just wanted to let the readers know that head coaches vote on mvw awards not chosen by schools and i agree that sometimes it does go to special circumstance wrestlers. ie wrestling through adrversity

Congrats to Cole Tawney, but I agree with SEOAL83 and believe Briggs Shoemaker should have been MVP of the meet.
