Low numbers are always a shame because it is so hard to win a duel or pool style tournamnet when a lot of the other teams have so many wrestlers. Good job everyone, but tough luck for Belpre.

The new weight class rule has kept a lot of these kids from moving down to previous weights of years past I have noticed.

What is the new rule? I don't keep close tabs on these since I don't coach anything anymore.

One class down per season I do believe. For instance, a 119 at the season's start cannot go below 112.

a good rule, although it could hurt some teams.

At Muskingum, we had a guy that wrestled 150 at meets and weighed 175 during the week before matches and he cut 25 lbs every time we had a match.

The rule is you can not drop below 7% body fat. You can go down 5 weight classes. Our 215 can go to 152 at 7% body fat it is not happening but legally could go to that weight. You also have to be able to get to the weight by I believe Jan. 24th. Again you can go the whatever weight you want as long as you are at 7% body fat the only exception is if you weigh-in pass the hydration test and weigh for instance 104 pounds and your body fat is 6.159% you are a 112 lber and can NOT go to 103 because you are below 7%. so you would want to make 103 or less and then be 6% body fat pass hydration and then you could wrestle 103 . You can only loose 1.5% of your weight per week which differs but averages about 2 pounds of weight loss per week. So some kids will drop more than 1 weight class my 171 can drop to 152 but could not wrestle 152 until first of January due to the 1.5% drop per week.

Thanks for the explanation Tric118. So basically the little guys will struggle with this rule more.

Yes your right the smaller the wrestler the less weight to cut.
