This was posted by Shenk in Mar. of 2008. Shenk.....you had it right all along! LOL

Would there be more interest in this meet and would the wrestling be better if it were a pre-season all-star match like is done in Columbus. You could have more time to get the team together. You could have a summer coach's meeting were all the coaches are involved in selecting the teams and that would relieve some of the pressure off of Tric having to do all the work (which is appreciated) and always having to explain himself.

Just a thought from the cheap seats.

What about having each league send their champs for an all-star tournament? I understand this posses a few problems with several teams not being represented in a league, and it would take a little more work / time to run a tournament, but I think it is the best way to regain interest. Each league represented in the Southeast sends its champs to compete as team MVL, TVC, SCOL, SEOAL, MSL, who am I missing? There would be a lot of good matches. Run it round robin style, crown a champ of each weight class as the SEO all star. Also keep team scores so the team champ get bragging rights as the best league in SEO.

I think we could sell this one to spectators a little better and increase fan interest. The tournament format will increase the # of good matches. Best league bragging rights on the line might spark interest, and I think the kids might be more interested / feel like they earned something if they actually competed to win all star status. Could also increase determination to win league... You want to be an all star.... win your league tournament. I know we have kids at Logan every year who see wrestlers they've beaten more than once in the season get to the all-star meet ahead of them because the other guy won a few more matches at a district that is much weaker than ours. As a result, it's very hard to get our kids interested.

Like I said there are some problems with this format, but I think we could make it work. Can you even hold a tournament as an all-star meet, or is that against the rules? What are some thoughts on this??
