This will be a pool tourney The tourney will be run by Terry Young and results will be on Baums page as well as teams seeds for weight classes and overall results after the tourney is over. I know there will be more teams there this year than last we are trying to make this one of the best tournament in southern ohio. This will be the last home Match for Seniors Brandon Taylor and Zack Tackett both whom have been 4 year starters for the Blue Devils and anchors for the team thru the last 4 years also Senior Arron Guisinger will make his season debut in his last home matches also. should be a great day of wrestling this is the start of a meatgrinder of a season for the Blue Devils wrestling every weekend till the end of the season. So if you have never been to a wrestling meet come on out also the JH tournament is the next day and I believe it has over 20 teams entered into it.

Looking over the teams, what was the team that came from way north last year? Was it McComb?

Yes.

No Point, no Athens, no Logan. Think the field is a bit weaker than last year.

I don,t really think it is weaker after all we will wrestle these teams, logan, athens and point within the next month .I do not know for sure but I would say they were all sent invites . its a 2 way street loses to any opponet you will have to face in upcoming tournaments hurt your seeding and facing them twice with the chance of spliting or losing 2 isn't going to help either maybe just a little strategy. at any rate we will see point before wsaz and we will see logan before league and we will see athens at Deno so the Blue Devils competition ramps up all year not saying our tourney will be easy but with out those 3 teams it does take out some tough competion at certain weights and all 3 of those teams would be full teams for sure

I didn't mean that our schedule was weaker, just the field for the holiday tourney.

it seems to me like this tournament would be stronger then at least last year. the only team missing from last year would be logan. and the following teams added.
i think logan elm would be about an equal replacement. vinton county has full squad this year and has been competeing very well even though it looks like we will get them on there third day in a row wrestling. chillicothie and wahama will have a few good wrestlers. dont know much about trimble. wellston or zane trace but i would say this tournament would be tougher then last year. And i do agree this is probably the weakest tourney on gallia academys schedule but a lot of area division II schools have seemed to up there schedule this year.

Yes, Vinton County is at the West Jeff tournament the 27th and the 28th. Then, they will turn around and be at the Gallia tournament the 29th. However, I think it will be a good tournament and good luck to Vinton County at both tournaments.

Additional Weight Allowance: Due to Vinton County wrestling on Tuesday and Wednesday, a two pound weight allowance will be given in addition to the two pound growth allowance granted on December 25. Weigh-ins will be scratch +4 on Thursday (106 will be 110; 113 will be 117; etc.)

I have posted this on baumspage and will send an e-mail to all coaches/athletic directors as well.

What if a wrestler has not made scratch yet this season? Will that wrestler get 2lbs instead of 4 or will he not get any and have to make scratch?

My understanding is that the wrestler has to make scratch first.

F. GROWTH ALLOWANCE
1. The OHSAA Weight Monitoring Program includes growth allowance. A
two pound growth allowance will be given on December 25.
2. Growth allowance may not be utilized to achieve a lower minimum weight
for a wrestler.
3. In order to utilize the growth allowance, a wrestler shall compete at his/her
lowest allowable weight in the desired weight class at least once prior to
using the two pound growth allowance.

126 looks to be a good weight class the top 3 all 10-1 and the 170 looks to be a burner the top 2 both seniors both undefeated Taylor from Gallia always top notch and very good don't know much about Noble from Chesapeake but he better have his seat belt on if he meets Taylor in the finals. 182 Tackett can never be taken lightly one mistake and your done 195 the top 2 both very good wrestlers but Shoemaker has been making a statement so far this year I would say he has a strength advantage. Mark Allen at 160 is much improved an will be in the mix at the finals as will freshmen sensation Tawney at 120, 138 the top 6 have good records and good creditals we will see how it works out and if Guisinger returns at hwt well lets just say he will shake the big boys up a bit don't know if these seeds are set in stone yet as they are listed as preliminary

The seeds are listed as preliminary for two reasons: coaches can challenge based on recent head-to-head results; and 2) coaches can make changes to their line-ups up until 8 PM tonight. I'll try to update and post final seeds later this evening. Terry
