What a great season it has been for a great gallia team, after a few years of being down the kids are filtering up through our great youth program and jr.high teams to help work ourselfs back into the competiton. This season has been a great one for the boys, winning the league title, having school records broke. Jared Gravelys' single season wins 44, the old record was 43 held by Dustin Winters. Brandon Taylor freshmen record for wins 39, the old record was 28 held by Kyle Bays . Kyle Bays also got his 100 th career win this season which is consider a milestone in wrestling and he has another season to add to his career. Gallia sent 5 wrestlers to the district, the most ever and although the results were not what we hoped for we still had some kids get good experience. Gallia will be returning the core of their team next season only losing seniors Clint Saunders, Corey Mason, Cody Pullins and Mike Hackett. Zack Tackett will return from the injury list to resume his spot on the roster and with some good 8 th graders coming up it looks to be another great year for Gallia Academy in 2009-2010. teams are going to have one heck of a time beating gallia the next few years..

on a side not, after gravely lost his go to state match to ramsey, he walked straight to the corner, shook my hand, and congratulated me for ramsey winning the match and advancing..
would have been real easy to throw a fit and be crushed
WHAT CLASS
jarod you are a great kid and you better be on the podium next year

Has Gravely ever thought of wrestling heavyweight?

I think with his athleticism and strength, he would destroy 90 percent of the heavies and be a ble to beat most of the rest of them.

he was a small 215..
very lean and strong, but only weighed 205
would be tough to put on enough weight to deal with a season worth of giving up 50 plus pounds
215 really empties out this year

I have watched the kid for the past two seasons, I know his size. I don't think he would need to put on any weight. The extra weight would slow him down.

Now I know he is not Kurt Angle, but Angle won an NCAA championship at heavyweight weighing about 200 lbs. He dominated the heavyweigher guys with his strength and athleticism.

I think it would be interesting to see Graveley wrestle a few exhibition matches against good heavies and see how he does.

Either way, he is going to be a stud again, next season.

I didn't get to see Gallia at all this season but the kids that I got to coach/watch at the all star meet were tough kids. Seems that their program is heading in the right direction.

Gallia has a great head coach and a nice feeder system going on. I feel that all too often that the biddy league coaches are not given enough props. So here's a shout out to Coach May and all the others involved at the lower level.

Look for the Devils to make a lot of noise next year.

Kyle Bays ,Clint Saunders came up through the youth program as did Ben Saunders ,Matt Watts, Brandon Taylor and Zack Tackett look for these kids to make some noise next year with the exception of clint who graduates but has been a fine member of the team this past year. Gravely started in 8th grade but has made great strides since then Gallia had some tough kids wrestling back up this year so look for some new faces that will suprise some people next year. Coach May does a great job year round and can really get a kids confidence up when in the corner I feel that some of the high school matches he came to after the jr. high was done Helped out the kids alot .

Gallia - wrestlers at Grade School States

This past weekend Gallia Academy had two wrestlers competing in the Ohio Grade School State wrestling tournament.

Scott Mash finished in the top 12 in Division 3 - 90 pounds.

Jared Stevens had a great showing and finished 1 - 2 over the weekend at Division 3 - 65 pounds.

Gallia's youth program is looking very strong. The youth wrestling program (Gallipolis Pythons) have quite a few very tough wrestlers.

Johnathan Caldwell will have a good season next year! I had the honor of wrestling him twice this year, and gave me great matches both time! If he puts in the time in the weight room and at open mats, he will be a force to be reckoned with in the SEOAL and Sectionals, and hopefully beyond! Good luck to him and the rest of the Blue Devils!!

From Warrior Land, Gallia should be the team to beat along with Athens in this area. No-one else has the horses to keep pace with these two teams. SEOAL Gallia hands down, trhen it is a toss-up, Maybe Marietta or Logan second and third, Chilli next, with Jackson and Warren rounding it out. I'll be following the local teams and wish the Blue Devils a great season.
