What are we looking at from the TVC this year? Who will be on top as the team to beat? Who are some of the wrestlers this year to look out for in the TVC?

not real familiar with most of the tvc, but ny always has tough wrestlers. athens is the defending champ but not sure what they have coming back. as for belpre, wiggers should be very tough and take over as the team leader with ashton packard gone. todd packard and corey law will have strong seasons imo. i'm sure there are others that i'm leaving out. sorry, no disrespect meant. i'm just bad with remembering names. there should be a bunch of freshmen on the team this year moving up from jr high. fresh faces pushing the upperclassmen. should be a very positive year for the eagles.

NY edges out Athens and wins TVC.

It would be nice if the coaches of our other sports would encourage their athletes to wrestle!
If someone doesn't, it will be a long season for Belpre, just because of low turnout.

Belpre's young football players, come out for wrestling, see what you're made of. It could make you a better football player.

Athens lost some very good kids but return a good group of kids and should have no problem defending the title with great depth. Some of the top kids Jackson DQ, Dingess DQ, Young DQ, Lazear DQ, add in Stalder, Covington, Anderson and Kiener.

Nelsonville-York has some very tough kids Mclaughlin 5th State, Moody 8th State and Zach Hook State Qual. add in Leitwein DQ, Dakota Hook DQ, Coon and a super freshman and Junior High state placer Zach Mays. Nelsonville-York has the fire power just not the depth that Athens has.

Wellston has a great new coach, Coach Andy Schein the former Nelsonville-York assistant. With a good group of kids back he will take this program to another level. Top kids Mckiniss DQ and Fleming DQ.

Belpre has Wiggers DQ and Crislip DQ, add in some young kids Law and Packard who have made great improvements. Belpre always does well under coach Adams.

Waterford has Tyler Reed 2x State Qual. 1x placer 3rd 2 years ago. After that they have a few young kids Efaw DQ, Miller DQ and Crock. Coaching change before the season could be tough. Have they found a coach yet?

Trimble has Webster DQ and Joyce DQ. After that they will be a new team with a new coach Phil Faires also head football coach. I am sure the numbers will improve.

Alexander is in its 2nd year and will continue to build. Top returners are Mendenhall and Jeffers.

Meigs also continuing to rebuild. Top returners Hayes, Little and Roush

Vinton County is also in the rebuild mode. They return a very good 215 in Bradndon Grigsby. Coach Games who does a great job looks to build around the Senior with some young talent.

Belpre will return Carr, Wallace, Wiggers, Crislip, Law, Packard. Parrish, Sprigg. And there should be some freshman. Not sure of the wholw team those were just ones i could name at the top of my head. Freshman Nate Teeters may be ok i think he was a jr high SQ. Nelsonville has some VERY GOOD young wrestlers and should be favored 2nd or 1st with Athens. I think Belpre could place 3rd this year if they get weight classes filled and prepare well.

Athens is just to big for the other schools in the t.v.c.

Athens is too big for TVC?

We also have Swimming, Hockey, Soccer, and other activities to compete with and these bring numbers down. What about Meigs and Vinton they are DII. We have just as hard a time getting kids out as anyone else. In 2005 Athens ended the season with 12 kids on the wrestling team. We were beaten by NY, Belpre, and VC and had very close matches with Meigs, Wellston and won one match against Waterford. So I guess the only way Athens could be having any success in sports is because we have 450? boys in the school.

Just for Gitts and shiggles here are the numbers and Meigs is DIII new this year. The numbers are crazy top School Athens almost 700 students 363 boys the bottom Waterford 170 90 boys. Something needs to be done. Total boys for 9 schools 1772, average number per school is 196.8 Only 4 out of the 9 schools are above the average. I like Athens in the League do to a good rival and makes the league much more competetive. I hope the TVC continues to add teams and split into 2 or 3 divisions. They are talking about Big, Medium and Small. Maybe Warren and Jackson will join and make big school Division with Athens, Meigs, Alexander, Jackson, Warren, Vinton County. And the small schools would be Wellston, Nelsonville-York, Wahamma, Belpre, Trimble and Waterford. For now it is what it is. Athens is in the league and we need to work to all get better. I would not want to be in the small school division as I like the competetion that Athens has brought to the TVC. But Waterford and Trimble have small enrollments.

School Boys Girls Total Divison for wrestling
Athens 363 322= 685 Div II
Vinton Co 296 263= 559 Div II
Meigs 223 228= 451 DIII
Alexander 206 196= 402 DIII
Wellston 181 187= 368 DIII
Nels. York 161 139= 300 DIII
Belpre 140 118= 258 DIII
Trimble 112 125= 237 DIII
Waterford 90 80= 170 DIII

I can't believe Keith Myers lets one of his coaches get on these threads and run his mouth like coachk does.

ny will be on top at t.v.c,,,, following close behind because of head count will be athens.athens has good wrestlers, but ny has proven what level they are and its time to harvest the fruit of its labor from 119,125,130,135,140 ,152 is all ny without a doubt some of the most amazing wrestlers along with coach yinger who has been the foundation of this team of warriors, the deno classic should be a good gauge of what fire power ny and athens have for the t.v.c

i am sorry i was not trying to run my mouth i was expressing frustration with the recurring theme of athens being "too big" for their league, considering that most of the people making these argument are not respected coaches, but rather unnecessary complaining about the league change. no disrespect is meant towards any other posters, but this is a forum about the sports themselves, not about the questionable choices of the various school boards running them. that topic has been covered well enough in other places, and one would hope enough people had gotten tired of reading about it to keep it out of these topics.

especially since logan is by far the largest team in their league as well
