N-Y has 5 wrestlers still alive 19th place overall out of 43. Mclaughlin 2-1, Moody 2-1, Mays 2-1, Coon 2-1 and Hook 2-1 will wrestle tomorrow. Leitwein wrestled well finished 1-2 lost a tough last match. Overall very good day. By far this is as good as the state tournament.

WCH yes 3 placers Mays 7th, Moody 7th and Hook 8th. Mclaughlin 3-2 and Coon 3-2 missed placement by 1 match and Leitwein had a tough 1-2 finish. This tounament is sick from the get go every match is like a state match very very good competetion. I am already looking forward to going back next year as I feel we could have done a little better.

Yes they did make it in the 90's Athens and Miami Trace also made it. It is still rare to see southeast ohio teams in it especially 2 in same year.

I think Belpre went in 1994. They qualified during the 1993 season. It was the year Eric Chevalier (State Champion) was a freshman. Belpre had him and six other freshman on the team, along with Scott Gilbert (State Runner-Up) as a junior. There were no seniors. All of those freshman, along with Gilbert a two or three more qualified to the districts out of a VERY tough Barnesville Sectional. The next season, NONE of the freshman returned except for Chevalier. You can only imagine what happened at the State Duals the next year.

Why is this a story that is consistent among schools from SE Ohio, but would NOT be among a school from NE or NW Ohio? How can a kid wrestle hard all season long as a freshman, qualify to the district tournament out of a tough sectional, miss going to the state tournament by a match or two, NOT come out the next year or any other year after?

Coal miner great question. Our 112 last year Austin Inman just did the same thing DQ last year as freshman quit the team. We have to forfeit 112 at the duals.

Kids get lazy...They don't want to put in the work year in and year out.
