Miami Trace Invite 1-28-12

Post by wch125 »

I think this will be a very tough tournament once again. This tournament is very difficult to win. This will be like a mini district meet for some teams that compete in Div.2 Southwest.

Team list
Washington C.H.
Miami Trace
Galia Academy
Sheridan
Bethel Tate
Wilmington
Circleville
Graham B
Logan Elm
MCClain
Wyoming
Westfall
Marietta
Warren
Vinton County
Roger BAcon
Goshen
Greenville
AThens
Amanda Clearcreek

fascinating tourney even without knowing what grahamB team will look like. I will be shocked if top of tourney is not super tight. I can see 5 or 6 teams winning it.

really just starting to look at tourney but i like the big boys here. A lot of tourneys do not have any depth at 285 this tourney is loaded.

washington court house SHAW is defending state champ
wyoming BLUM is ranked 16th by bucksman
marietta JOHNSON is a horse
Wilmington EVANS
Bethel Tate MOLLETTE
all the above are at least sectional placers/
sheridan LOUGHMAN was jr. high state runner up
Gallia Academy GUISSENGER is capable of beating anybody anytime.

and those are just the ones i know a little about.

Team champion will be one of following 8 teams i think. These teams are in no particular order

washington c.h.
bethel tate
wilmington
wyoming
sheridan
athens
gallia academy
amanda clearcreek

i will try to make a top 3 later in week. At first glance looks like winners will come from everywhere the question will be who will have the most 3rd 4th and 5th placers.

I also have to admit when i am wrong. I truly thought the Nelsonville york tourney was one of the deepest tourneys i had scene in southeastern Ohio. After looking at this list. I think the Nelsonville tourney might of had a few more stars and high state placers but this tourney is very deep at most weight classes. I hope my schedule allows me to make it this week. I am off on Day of Deno but don't know if i will make this great tourney.

Hate to nit pick but..... Technically it is the Southwest/Southeast District. Even though the folks down that way won't even put the Southeast District on a T-Shirt. Wonder what happened to it supposed to be in the Southeast every fourth year? Convo in Athens or Dyson Bando at Marietta College could hold the districts. Dyson Bando (The Ban Johnson Field House) Has had a multi-million remodel and addition, could easily handle size and accomodations in Marietta are close to MC. The convo at OU, more that enough room and what a great recruiting tool for OU wrestling. Hummmmm. Wishful thinking I know.
Parsons Warren 106 State Qualifier last season is at 113.
Harlow Warren 160 or 171? State alternate last season is at 182.
Freshman Cognolton at 106 has only 2 losses on the season
Senior Knotts is at 145 and having a solid season, 5 or less losses this year.
Junior Antill has some losses, but can and does at times wrestle up to the competation or down, if you know what i am getting at.
Athens is solid at many weight classes and could make alot of noise here.
Gallia is one of the toughest teams in our area this year and are solid at most all 14 classes. and have their returning state guy in Brandon Taylor, as well. They are all strong and good wrestlers. Definately don't count them out as in the hunt at the top of this tourney. Would love to get over to see this one. Miami trace put on a great show and this is a tough one. If any of your team places in the top six, they have earned it this weekend. Wish all the teams well and a healthy injury free weekend.

Mr. Roberts is mixing it up this year publishing his report in two parts. Above is a link to part one which contains #50-#26 of the Top 50 as well as a preview of the tournament. We will have to wait for Friday to get the Top 25!

Neat article, on correction, being petty here I know.

#45 Chris Zwiesler did not win a Division I District Championship. He made the finals at 145 at Massillon Perry in 1994. He lost a 4-3 (maybe 5-4) decision to Benj Schenkel (schenk11) to finish as runner-up. It was his only year in Division I as Miami Trace was DII before the 1994 season.

the winner of this tourney should feel very good about there upcoming sectional tourney. And also a decent look at what half of the district bracket should look like.
i have narrowed my choices to 5. this may not be the right order but here is top 5
1. washington c.h. barely
2. amanda clearcreek. could sneak out top spot.
3. athens: built for tourney wrestling no easy outs all wrestlers collect points.
4. circleville: i don't know why i like this team i just do.
5. gallia Academy: if the team is ready to wrestle they will compete for top spot. If only the studs show up ready to wrestle they will be middle of the pack at best.

Biggest question mark for me is if all these vinton county wrestlers make weight. they have dropped a ton of weight in weight classes have no idea how these boys will wrestle in these weight classes.

Thing i most want to see is the heavy weight division. it should be very competitive.
second biggest thing i want to see is Sheridan a good tournament team at end of season, and how is Athens team going to look in a full field tourney.
