2008 High School Golf Season

Post by Old Tom Morris »

What do the Southeastern Ohio area teams look like for next year?

Who is going to be strong?

Who looks like the team to beat?

West lost 7 of their 10 players, Wheelersburg looks like the team to beat in SOC II

Athens loses only 2 seniors and only one that contributed on a regular basis. however that one is last year's #1 man Shay Brooks, which is a big blow but the Bulldogs should be pretty good again in 08

Eastern will be better next year. Although they lost Carroll, Edwards, and Schultz they have a nice nucleusof golfers coming back with jones and Carroll and Ive heard they will have some new golfers out next year that will be better than the 3 seniors they just lost so look for a goal a little higher than the 2nd place finish they had this year

Ironton should be strong for the next few years-with Nate back and the next 5 players being freshmen this year things look bright. just kee working hard and good things will come-it's supposed to be in the 60's next week hint hint.

wheelersburg team returns all but one, the 1 man charles floyd.
but, Dials, rawlings, montavon, boyer, ballard, and cline look to be good in the soc2 and hopefully will return to the districts.

But with kerns and the other ironton starters returning they look like the southern ohio team to beat.

The SEOAL I think Marietta might surprise some people but Warren will be way down after all the seniors they lost. In the TVC Ohio, it looks like Meigs and Belpre will battle for the crown again. Belpre returns some solid players from their state run last year. In the Hocking It will be between Trimble, Southern, and Waterford.

According to Thursday's Tribune, Gallia Academy will have a new golf coach for the first time in a dozen years or so. The city school board hired Corey Luce to replace Jim Pope, who has held the post since the mid-90s.

Yes, Jim Pope will be missed. He was a good coach that worked hard with the kids and was also a very positive influence in their lives. Good luck to Coach Luce, you have a good group of kids for your initial season and an upcoming team that should be much improved this year. Good luck Devils!!

I heard a rumor from someone that Nelsonville York had only one 1 TVC match in something like four years. I don't think they will be much of a problem for Meigs, Belpre, and Athens!!!
