GAHS netters blank Ironton 5-0 for 2nd win

Coach Alex Penrod’s Gallia Academy High School’s tennis team blanked visiting Ironton 5-0 on the Robert H. (Bob) Eastman Courts at Centenary Friday afternoon.

The triumph left GAHS with a 2-2 season record. Next Blue Devil match is scheduled 4:30 p.m., on April 11 at home against SEOAL foe Chillicothe.

In Friday’s first singles match. Gallia’s Jared Lester defeated Ironton’s Hale, 7-6, (7-5) and 6-1. Zack Stewart defeated Ironton’s Bowles 6-0, 6-0 in second singles play.

In third singles action, Gallia’s Alex Gaguras defeated Cosby, 6-1, 6-0.

First doubles play saw Gallia’s Riley Nibert-Sean Saltzgaber down Fields-Wilson, 7-5, 6-1.

Gallia Academy won the second doubles by forfeit.

After four matches, Gallia’s Connor Christian is 2-1, Kelle Craft 2-1, Alex Gaguras 2-0, Jared Lester 2-2, Riley Nibert 4-0, Sean Saltzgaber 4-0, Joe Sbastion 0-1, Varum Sharma 1-2 and Zack Stewart 1-1.
