bman,

As I would think you know, "winning ugly" is a figure of speech commonly used to describe football teams that successfully utilize the style of play that Alder does. I was doing nothing but complimenting Alder.

Southern, probably read it too literally. Had some of the other earlier posts in my mind probably. My bad.

As for Jackson, I've heard some good things about numbers and talent in their program, so they should remain a strong program.

yes but by the same token... alder came up with the interception at Logan Elm. Pressure from Alder helped cause those uncharacteristic mistakes like high snaps or muffing a fair catch. I am not saying it is the only reason but i am sure that it is a factor and until you strap on a helmet and pads in a big game like that you just dont know what its like. Alder has had a great run of getting into the playoffs and a lot of that is because we take on the D1 schools and the toughest schools we can fit on the schedule.

Alder hasnt really played a perfect game all season. We gave up 28 points against Clinton Massie and came back to win 29-28. We killed our selves on several drives last night and during the logan elm game by making blocks in the back and holding. We are routinely penalized for that last hit that was a little to close to the whistle. Alder is beatable...any team is beatable. However, you measure the character of the team on the field and a win is a win.

Dont take anything away from either Alder or Jackson they both have great teams and someone had to lose.

bman,

No problem man. I think we completely agree. I believe that these people who are saying that Jackson lost the game and Alder didn't win it are way off base.

FridayNight, I was using last week as an example of the Alder style, not saying that LE should have won the game. Alder played a clean game against LE, LE didn't and Alder made them pay. Alder gives up some yards but they have that bend-but-don't-break style on defense. Alder has a very good football team, which is obvious by looking at its resume of quality wins this season.

Discipline.

Jonathan Alder was disciplined on kickoffs and especially on defense. They allowed no long plays and stayed true to their lanes and holes to contain.

The fumble start things....when was the last time a fumble shot forward in the air 10 yards on a line drive right to the defensive player for 50 yard return to the 6. The fumble was Jackson's fault...but ridiculous fortune the the rest of that play. Easy 7.
Down 7-0 we are driving with decent ease and are 2nd and 4 on the 25....an errant snap shoots the ball back to the 40 for a near impossible 3rd and 21 and out of FG range.

7-0 JA ball and our blitzes with a clean shot slips allowing time for the long bomb over top of our entire defense....we had a chance to bust it up on a sack or a pass deflection but defender let them deep and never turned to find ball....we had 2 chances to make that play and didn't and JA had one shot at that play and made it....they earned that TD.

14-0....we are getting the ball back via punt....we muff the punt and JA ball deep in Ironman territory. I think we had them 3rd and 9 but we were far enough off to complete first down then receiver broke numerous arm tackles and scored. 21-0....got a break on another unforced error and again made a play. 21-0

I know we were getting first downs at will using 3 straight runs....but the one stalled drive as JA jumped the play on first knowing it was going to Drew and we never recovered. I know we lost due to costly mistakes but faking the handoff to Drew with maybe Ty going deep over the middle and #88 likely could've had an easy 15 yarder on whatever side he lined up.

Was McNelly healthy?

Great season Jackson, we were so mistake free so much this year. It's not how you want to go out, JA is excellent and were just solid and disciplined all game and made a few plays. The team that should've moved on did. You must be great during the 48:00 minutes of week 12, we were great all season and fell short. Keep your heads up guys....we'll never forget this team and season. Returning players....QUICKER, FASTER, STRONGER Speed training or run track...or do both, it's a must.

Best of luck to Jonathan Alder.

JA was a very quality TEAM. Defense didn't dive up the big plays. Forced Jackson to put very long drives together and Jackson was only able to sustain it long enough ONCE. Not something we had experienced much because of our explosiveness versus many of our season opponents. JACKSON WAS A VERY WORTHY OPPONENT. GREAT GAME TO WATCH FROM A FOOTBALL STANDPOINT.

Congrats to Ironman Players and Coaching Staff!!! Great Season, fun entertainment every Friday night!!! Best of Luck to seniors.

NOW, FOR ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT ON FRIDAY NIGHT!!!
I witnessed an IRONMAN TEAM, (that was 11 - 0) play very hard for 48 minutes, Coaches coach for 48 minutes. Gave Fans GREAT MOMENTS to cheer about for 11 WEEKS!!! IRONMAN FANS-- Where did many of you have to go with still about 8 Minutes left in the GAME???? I'm proud of those who stayed in the bleachers to show your support for the ENTIRE GAME. These PLAYERS AND COACHES put in a great amount of time and effort for you to be able cheer and attend week 11 & 12 as a fan. Thought in might mean alot for a player or coach to see that support is there for ALL 48 minutes when they prepare and play so hard!!!

Maybe don't bother anyone else, just thought I would mention for some to consider in the future.

ONCE AGAIN, Congrats on great season and best of luck seniors!!!

Ironmen future looks strong, Hope to see you ALL next season.

The Nelsonville-York people did the same thing last week while playing West and that was a home game. I don't understand it either ? :(

I've seen it at a lot of places. Team down by multiple scores with less than five minutes late, the folks start heading out to beat the traffic.

these are the people who left early every week and who only come when we are winning.I will say that our coachs take players to middle of field then rush them to locker room not back over to bleachers so fans can cheer and wave administration guards field with police would not even allow parents to go out on field and take pictures after win number 10 so we are trained to leave and not celebrate.

Ervin has to be the hardest big back I have seen for sometime. A couple of times he just gave a guy the forearm like get off me you little fly.
Alder did start going to his legs to stop him.
Take away the two fumbles and one bad snap and this game just might have gone to OT.
Alder will have trouble getting by the next team.
Thought I would see a little more passing from Jackson. They needed to go somewhere else other than McNeely.
Landrum will be a force next year.

Congrats to Jackson on a great year.

noreply.. keep thinking like that and you'll talk yourself right into.. not sure what game you watched.. it wasn't ever
close..

JACKSON WAS NOT THE BETTER TEAM.. #7 was a beast but that is all you had.. you turned the ball over
jumped offsides.. couldn't win the kicking game, couldn't win field position, didn't win the passing games, didn't win the rushing game.. didn't win the game.. .. you DIDN't outhit anybody.. Jakcson a good and #7 is the real deal.. but it wasn' even close ALDER.. 28- 7

ALDER DEFENSE IS JUST FLAT AWESOME ..

I was really impressed how the jackson fans could spell JACKSON but they did get help from the cheerleaders.

ROLLL PIONEERS.. SHAWNEE NEXT...

OT.... are you crazy... that wasn't LOGAN.. THAT WAS ALDER
The only stats Alder dominated was turnovers and points. Yep your right though you only have to dominate one stat and thats the score. Alder played a flawless game and my hats off to them but to say they dominated the rushing game well let me say

C-Bolt, very good game summary. A former coach once told me Footbal is a game of mistakes!

Alder rushed for 179 and Jackson rushed for 206. Potts had 118 yrds and Ervin had 136. So really not fair to say one team dominated the other in terms of running. Jackson moved the ball really well. A handful of plays and the game could have easily swung the other way. A few mistakes by a couple of players really hurt but I also think a big WTF moment in the game was the back to back screen passes called by the coach that killed a drive in alder territory. I think that was a momentum killer.

However, this was a fairly conservative Alder offense once they had the lead they played not to lose. I really think these were two pretty evenly matched teams as they should be playing in week 12. I didnt know much about Jackson football but based on that game I respect that team and what they did this year. It was a real fun one to watch...probably more fun from my side of the field but it was a real physical game and it was clean game. Hopefully, Jackson can reload and take a run at it again next year.

Absolutly! I wasn't taking anything away from Alder. They deserved the win and I wish them a state title I just didn't care for the one post I read.
Good Luck and PLEASE make our lone loss worth something by winning it all!
