Not sure which was which, but I believe Caldwell dropped one of them and then the other dropped Caldwell. At least that's what I was told. As for who they picked up, who knows. Needed to beef up the schedule a bit, but who knows when it became official that Beallsville and Rosecrans would be off the schedule. Sometimes it's not exactly easy to find teams with other open dates the same week and you just gotta take who's available.pilotfan1 wrote:How did Caldwell end up with Beallsville/Rosecrans off the schedule and Wheeling University and Harrison Central on it? That was a bad trade.

Re: PVC Post Season Thoughts
Next season should be pretty interesting. But until someone knocks off MC, I've got to go with them. They lose 6 seniors. The Kinchens, Hogue, Baker, Wise, and another lineman. The Kinchens, Hogue, and Wise will be tough to replace, but they still have the talent to do so. I'm guessing Lafferre will step in at QB, then you'll have Nixon and whoever else in the backfield, Baker was listed as a kicker in the program. Wise was their best lineman, but i'm not sure how much the other one played, so they could be bringing back a big chunk of their offensive line.pilotfan1 wrote:For giggles, this is how I see the pre-season outlook for next year...
1. River
2. MC
3. Caldwell
4. Shenandoah
5. FF
6. Trail
7. Frontier
Here's mine very early prediction for next year.
1. MC
2. River
3. Caldwell
4. Shenandoah
5. Fort Frye
6. Frontier
7. Buckeye Trail
River probably has the best chance of knocking off MC, but they'll have to do it on their home field. It was tough to choose between Caldwell and Shenandoah for 3 and 4. They're probably interchangeable.

Rayner will be back as well, who was Caldwell's second leading rusher before he went down due to injury. Rossiter will be tough to replace, but you'll see them split carries more evenly next year. A lot of what they lose was in the receiving corps, which they never really used in the first place.EasternDspy wrote:1.River 2.MC 3.Fort Frye 4.Caldwell 5.Fron 6.Shen 7.Trail....Caldwell and Doah lose basically all the Offense.Shenandoah will be way down losing both critical lineman and Crum,Hannum, both Leasure.Caldwell willneed VanMeter to step up.

In Div.V, Reg. 17 Monroe Central falls to St. Thomas Aquinas by a score of 34-12 tonight in Woodsfield.
Steely Dan will most likely have an update later.

Re: PVC Post Season Thoughts
To MC's credit it was 7-6 at half and 14-6 going into the 4th. Then a series of fumbles opened the flood gate that buried the Noles. The Noles just wore down in the 4th. I didn't give the Noles a chance but they played pretty well with this team that only lost to D3 10-0 Minerva by 3 points. Great effort though.
Would like to thank all the seniors for the dedication the past 4 years. In particular Tyler Kinchen. It's been fun watching he and his brother the past 4 years. He'll be talked about as one of the greats to put on a MC uniform for years to come.

Thanks for the update selon. Kind of what I figured would happen, just run out of gas, as they don't have the depth that other schools have, and running that damned spread offense with no depth really takes its toll on the kids who are playing 80 plays a game.
Good season, alot to be proud of. Only PVC team to make it to the dance, and like selon, I really didn't think that they'd have much of a chance against St. Aquinas.

1000% agree. I just don't get it. My next comment isn't about questioning Coach C because he has 300 victories and I have 0, but I also have 0 losses lol. If we're going to run this spread you have to have about 10 backup players shuffling in and out. Not just play the same 13-14 kids (special teams not included) both ways. I say that every year. These kids play 2 to 2.5 games compared to what you did back in the day.
When offenses were bunched up in 2 TEs/3 RB formations everything happened within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. Now you have WRs running 40+ yards every play, run 40+ yards to the huddle, then turn around and play DB and do the same thing. You have offensive linemen having to hold blocks for 7 seconds depending on what the QB does, then turn around and play defensive line running around trying to catch a loose chicken of a QB that's running 30 yards around in the backfield. And oh by the way, come playoff time, you'll be blocking and will be blocked by fresh kids because the other team will likely have about 8 or 9 linemen being shuffled in.
He's going to have to get more of the underclassmen ready and pick spots to bring them in. It's no longer play your top 11 athletes. Football has changed in the last decade. I think the spread gives us a chance, but more players, especially linemen must be utilized throughout the game.

Pilots need to realize how close they were and use that as motivation for next year. Dedication to the weight room over the winter could make a HUGE difference in 2012.pilotfan1 wrote:Not PVC related, but I really just shake my head at our season now after seeing Rosecrans destroy Danville. One fumble as River was running the clock out vs. the Bishops puts one team in the playoffs and another at home.
Definitely will be a big game next year with both River/Rosecrans returning a lot.

Congrats to Tyler K of MC on being 1st Team All-State. Any new news on coaches coming and going? Haven't heard much on Caldwell, which surprises me. Really thought they would have an all-stater, but 4-6 didn't help!
