Ironmen at Athens in Division III playoffs

The undefeated Jackson High School football team will be making the one-hour trip to Athens on Friday night (Nov. 4) for its Division III, Region 12 quarterfinal playoff game. The Ironmen, according to the respected football computer rankings website http://www.joeeitel.com, are the seventh seed in Region 12 while like undefeated Athens — with its 24-21 overtime win over Nelsonville-York on Friday night —vaulted into the second seed. The official Ohio High School Athletic Association football playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday afternoon.

This will be the first meeting between Jackson and Athens since 2007, which was the Bulldogs’ final game as members of the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League. The Bulldogs moved to the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division starting the next season, and are making their first playoff appearance since 1990. Jackson, meanwhile, is making its ninth postseason appearance and second consecutive. Kickoff for Friday night’s contest is set for 7:30 p.m. at Rutter Field in The Plains. Im still tryin to figure out how Athens was ranked higher than Jackson. I know this could start all sorts of debate (not my intention) but IMO, Jackson played the far tougher schedule. Not tryin to take anything away from Athens either.

Looking forward to this matchup. It's pretty much official at this point, so I'm gonna put together an "official" game thread. Should be a lot of fun to see everyone again.

Oh lord, here we go again ... Using the 'celebration excuse.' ... lol

I know that was a horrible debacle in 2003 (yea, we should have not tried to throw the ball 4 straight times inside the Jackson 5-yard line) ... BUT ... I was at R. basil Rutter Field in 1990 when the 'Dogs beat Jackson to knock the Ironmen out of the Division II, Region 7 playoff chase!!! Those of us who are old enough know that game was just as big as the 2003 contest.

Look for a re-peat of the 1990 match-up Friday - we're back in the friendly confines at Rutter Field where we know how to beat the mighty Jackson Ironmen.
