Week 2: Waverly (0-1) @ Jackson (1-0)
Week 2: Waverly (0-1) @ Jackson (1-0)
With Waverly coming off a hard loss to Piketon how do they respond to a Jackson team coming off a very emotional win against Wellston. The Ironmen will have to get their emotions in check and play on a level head, the offense of-line needs to gel before the running games opens up fully. You can not over look a good Tigers team but if the Ironmen play like they did last night I see them winning just get the kinks out of the offense. Drew Ervin was hitting hard and thats what you like to see the hit he put on Prater was brutal I can see another 35-0 victory if the defense flies to the ball like last night.

I don't care what the margin of victory is....but just improve each week.
Re: Week 2: Waverly 0-1 @ Jackson 1-0
I know I'm ridiculously ahead of myself....but Portsmouth not holding off Wilmington and Athens winning at Gallipolis sure makes it feel like the Ironmen will need to go 9-1 to be in the top 8 at the end of the year. You must first take care of things you can control....but those games and decisions out of your control really add up and make or break you. 8-2 should do it every year and 8-2 has never let us down with the 8 team format....but that side of it is off to a bad start.

ironman92, i live in waverly now at lake white. got a ton of great friends here. as well as i have some dear friends in ironman country. gonna have to pick the ironmen here. and since ironton is a common opponent to jackson, i want them at the top of their game. this is one of them games, i'll get a warm fuzzy feelin either way.

Gonna be an uphill battle for the tigers this week. Jackson D completely shut down wellston last night. Waverly has the talent on offense to move the ball downfield, but they got to cut out the fumbles and penalties. I'll still root for the tigers, but i gotta give this one to jackson.
Re: Week 2: Waverly (0-1) @ Jackson (1-0)
Last year, Waverly was extremely young and struggled against Jackson. I'm sure that the year of experience for many of those young guys has helped. Couple that with the fact that Waverly is always ready for the Ironmen, and I think you'll see a competitive game.
Jackson's strength early in the season is their defense, which played lights out against Wellston. I would expect the offense, namely the offensive line, to show a good bit of improvement from Week 1 to Week 2. If that happens, it makes the explosive athletes that Jackson has at the skill positions even more dangerous. Admittedly, I don't know much about Waverly this season, so I'm certainly not going to be making any predictions or assumptions. Jackson just needs to play their game and work to get better.
Hope to see another great crowd at Alumni Stadium to support the Red & White.

Last year was the year Jackson could pick the score. This Waverly is leaps and bounds ahead of the Tigers squad from last year.
Jackson vs. Waverly is a dogfight every year I expect a close game Friday night. I love making trips to Jackson the facility is second to none.

There are NO automatic wins in the SEOAL!!!!!! If you're not on your game every game you will leave the field with an L.
Good job defense last week and the offense has the potential and will get better and better each week. For all of the emotion and first game jitters I felt the Ironmen played very well offensively. Tons of pressure on Osborne but he setteled in and handled it quite nicely. Landrum will be tuff for anyone to handle. Ervin will shine once our O line gives him some time to make the cut. McNelly has great hands and his timing so far has been perfect. Ty showed the fans that he can break tackles and run this year as well.
Barr is disruptive to any offense. Nothing seems to get by Jeffers at MLB. Drew was flying off the outside. Landrum was hittin everyone up the middle. The whole defense came together and you could pick any name on the D and talk about the great contrabution they made.
One game at a time boys!!!

The Tiger are no more; Jackson will totally dominate this game. I really don’t think Waverly can win a game this year either. As Eye Lander states the losing streak continues for the Tigers. Hey does anyone know when Waverly won last? Maybe Northwest in 2009?

junglecat,
The Tigers will a game this year and I would love to see it come Friday night, now I'm not certain that will occur. Waverly had chances to beat Piketon and it will have chance to beat other teams.

I'm obviously not Jackson's AD, and I haven't spoken with him about next year's schedule, but I'm not so sure that Jackson is "dropping" Ironton. I believe that SEOAL games will be Weeks 6-10 next season. Jackson and Ironton have been playing Week 7. That means that Ironton would have to be shifted on Jackson's schedule. It's very possible that the two schools couldn't find a slot that both had open, especially since I'm pretty sure that Weeks 1-3 are already taken on Jackson's schedule. You're Tiger Bait wrote:I CHANGED MY MIND , GET ER DONE TIGERS, CAUSE I HEAR DEM IRONMEN ARE DROPPIN THE FIGHTING TIGERS.
Jackson has certainly taken a couple beatings from the Tigers at the Tank since the rivalry was renewed, but they have also defeated two Ironton teams that were regional finalists (2005 and 2010), and took the Tigers to OT in 2007. The Ironmen have been pretty competitive in this series over the last six years, so I highly doubt that it's a competition issue.
Jackson will be adding Wheelersburg and Athens to next year's schedule. Ironton will be gone, and St. Charles is a one year deal.
