I sure hope you guys can turn it around this year. It seemed like you guys could get out of the gate pretty fast but would be out of gas after the first quarter. Of course when I saw you guys it was week ten of a long season. Good luck and I hope you guys get the ship righted. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

the vikings will struggle again, why? the adminstration wont get yates good assistant coaches. the little vikes program sucks, it does more to discourage kids from playing so it can win a super bowl. the kids themselves it means nothing anymore to represent your school on friday night. we have a winning basketball program so every boy in school thinks he is a basketball player. all of the best players transfers because they are selfish or their parents have a misguided grip of reality. everybody can blame yates but it aint his fault if they fire him they will have these same problems next year.

I remain ever so optimistic, I believe the Vikings will contend for the TVC title. And I will refrain from espousing an opinion of the current state of Vinton County football.

I agree with the part about Lil Vikes making the super bowl a bigger priority than developing young players.

I, in the spirit of all things positive about Vinton County, retract my previous statement. And apologize for my insincerity.

I feel for any coach/staff that has to deal with this. It takes a coach some time to build a program and have success. I really feel that the problem in Vinton County is that they do not give a coach the support or time he needs to build a solid program. When a team is coming off of losing seasons, just changing a coach is not going to make them the next state champs. Unless you walk into a loaded team with tons of athletes it just isn't going to happen. Plus the High school coach cannot control what happens with the youth program, parents transfering their kids to other schools. I am not making excuses, I feel I am just speaking facts here. Coach Yates is a young head coach and like all young coaches he will make a mistake or two. Programs are built will patience for a coach and loyalty to the program. And that goes from the administration all the way down to the fans in the stand... Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

Bringdanoise, I hear you loud and clear, I hope everyone else does.

The Vikings will scrimmage at Coal Grove August 11th, at 7:00 pm. They will scrimmage at home against Southeastern August 18th and have the Jamboree at home against Fort Frye, August 21st.

The Vikings will host the Unioto Shermans August 28 at 7:30pm.

trimble gets it. i think coach faires has been here so long he even coached my dad. i dont think it is any secret to why he wins. keep your coach for a while and he might just start winning more games, like coach faires did.

Heard that the scrimmage against Coal Grove was a fiasco. Sounds like the vikes didnt even get one first down. hate to say it but it might be a repeat of last year. I watched practice the other day and theres only 30 kids on the team, one of the worst turnouts ive ever seen,

As far as you fellas claimin that a coach needs time to get experience,i wont disagree, buy your quick on the draw to come to coach yates' defense, how soon you forget that we had a coach previous to mister yates, that took VC to the playoffs mind you, Jeff Downs. Coach Downs was a class act and got removed for from what i can see no apparent reason. Then he went to Fed Hock and took them to the playoffs as well. The man's either real lucky or real good.

Now i would just love to hear your theories on why he got removed after 3 years with a better record than yates, but yates is still here after winning only a third of his games in 3 years.

Must be nice to be in the good ole boys society

i havnt heard much or seen much of the vikings this summer..but as a vc grad i wish the boys the best! i hope they dominate!!! its sad to hear that the pee wee program is different now a days. when i was young it wasn't about politics everyone got to play and it was hard working dads that just loved helping out kids that made it work...yea we didn't win very many games but we learned the fundamentals . and when jr high came around we lost 2 games in 2 years. high school came we produced a handful of all league all district and all state players!....i hope it gets back on track and we can put some pride back in vinton county football..

. when i was in school teams players would tell us that we were one of the strongest teams they've played .. i think it comes down to heart in high school football..because in our area its rare to find a team with athletes that are that far ahead of everyone else's..the team thats the roughest the longest usually has the most heart and wins the game( in most cases, we werent so lucky because everyone associated with the program players and all were pointing fingers at the wrong people)...football essentially is a very simple game... its a good test to see how much of a man u really are...do you lay down when ur beaten? or do u fight untill u can't move...its an ego tes..how big a boy are ya? lol
