Man if you have all the answers why don't you apply for the job and I bet we would win every game. Let's be honest here. It isn't like the team is loaded this year and we are losing games. We lost a tough game with key players hurt. We showed some promise and we will improve.

As far as why does coach Yates keep his job... He keeps it because he is a good coach. The record may not show it but when you can only play the kids you have then you are limited. I really wish people would stop complaining about coaches that we had in the past that were "ran out". These coaches left by thier own choice and no one elses.

Viking4life:How about just be a fan and shut your mouth. Unless I see you walking the sidelines on Friday night and the practice fields all week I really feel your opinion is worthless.

Well i don't apply for the job because i am not a football coach just like is not one either. Its just same poop every year we don't got talent or we got players hurt, or we are rebuilding. He is no dam coach he need his ass fired. every other team has players hurt or loose talent and they win. All i can hope for is basketball gets here quick so i can enjoy a win every so often. Matt is a great coach and Yates is horrible so i guess vc fan have take good with bad huh?

Wow, indeed. It is easy to point the finger at the coach. However in reality, we must point a finger at ourselves. What have we done to make the program better? We can start by being positive, supportive, and appreciative of the effort of our youth, coaches, volunteers, and administration that allows us to gather as community on Friday nights. It is special to be able to meet and share each others company with family and friends. The football team lost a game Friday night, so what? The Vinton County community lost a promising young man, one of its own, Saturday night. There is the tragedy. People it is time to get a new perspective, enjoy the youth, enjoy the sense of community, and enjoy and revel in each other. As Micheal had said; "...it is time to make a change and I am starting with the Man in the Mirror." Be positive people, be people who you aspire to be. The Vinton County community is better than this!!

OMG, now your quoting the late Michael Jackson.

Honestly, outside of that, I agree with everything you said Hawkeye.

Ok, VC lost a football game and we might not look real promising right now. Instead of being critical, especially when its the easiest thing to do, I think EVERYBODY(not just the coaching staff) take a long, objective look at why things aren't exactly where the people of VC want them. In my opinion, that starts at the top(very top), and in some fashion, goes all the way through the program. But alienating one coach certainly is narrow minded and ignorant.

By the way Hawkeye....you're such a PYT!

vinton county no doubt won the turnover game last week. i think i counted 8 kids not dressing thats alot. you have got to score some points when in position and put people away.

Ty, it is too easy to quote the greats, however, you are right Micheal Jackson might not be the appropriate choice of philosophers. How about this;

"Be the change you wish to see in the world." Ghandi

Ghandi and Mikey Jackson in the same thread . . . this really is getting good.

A dedicated, long-suffering Warren Warrior sends his sympathies.

It takes a long time to make it back, and I predict that you will not begin to turn things around until you all pull in the same direction. The progress we are seeing in our program started 7 years ago when these kids were in our youth football league. It has taken this long, with the participation of a bunch of folks, to get things to the point that we are competitive again.

One thing that is a sure bet, when you bicker a bunch, kids just walk away from the mess. Kids have options just like everyone else, and if it is a hassle, they will hang it up.

Agree 100%. Coach Yates should have a open forum meeting this winter with anyone who in interested in helping, in a positive way, with the rebirth of VC football. WE could have volunteers at all levels including flag, lil vikes, jr high, weight room and conditioning. People in Vc want to help and people can bring some things to the table but no one is organized. By the way there is close to 100 kids K-3rd grade playing flag football.

I have a lot friends and some family in VC. They say Yates doesnt stand a chance not because of him, but because the schedule is too tough. They have lost to my Ironmen every year, to Waverly every year, and Nelsonville every year, but Nelsonville is in their league, that is three garauntee losses, how about giving him three garauntee wins, play Trimble they are competitive, what about Oak Hill they are competitive, how about Zane Trace they are competitive, now I am not saying these are garautees but it gives VC a chance to pick up some wins. How many times are VC going to start out 0-3 or 1-2 before someone does something about it? Just keep playing Jackson a lot of money there. They also say that there is no development at the lower levels, and there is no support from above, it sounds like to me, Yates cant do it all.

this isnt a basketball forum..but ill tell u this we play the same teams in basketball as we do in basketball. dnt try n say our bball is successful because we play small schools. in the summer league we play D-1 schools out the A@@ we play beat and hang with the best of the best in the summer when i was in school. its because of that we stomp teams in our league. dnt give me the small school bit. u think it was me and the teams fault our school is d-2 when we should very well be d-3 in bball..we went out n won games...dnt come at me with the bball team is good cuz this and the football team is bad cuz this..same kids play football that play basketball for most part....

now on to friday nigthts game

vc did what vc does best.. gave up..didnt want it as bad a unioto did...because vc was more talented top to bottom (which is ganan be rare this year) . if vc wants to win games there going to have to sell out every play! every min every drive every possession! coach yates isnt the fault of this..the problem with vc program starts in the youth...to be honest vc's football players the last 5 years has been soft! my class included. soft pussies! someone needs to teach the kids how to be men! instead of all the metro's u see wanting to play cuz a jersey looks good at school on Fridays.

Wow, another harsh statement!

Yeah primetime, i'm sure all the young men playing on Friday nights at VC only wanted the jersey to wear to school on Friday when they were sweatin' their butts off during summer 2-a-days.

It's easy to get down during losing seasons when you have a rich football history such as VC, but it happens to most (except for Orange and Browns' Buckeyes it would seem...they must have figured out a way to cheat the system :-D ).

As a Tomcat, I know we've been through our down times...but it makes the ups that much sweeter. Good luck to Coach Yates the rest of the way from Tomcat land. Keep your head up and the boys fired up! I don't miss getting smacked around by Yates, Snyder, Booth and co.

primetime,
The basketball team might play big schools in the summer, but when the real games that count are played, they only play small schools and bad teams in order to pad their schedule. How many great teams did you play during the season?

physther,
You are right. Vintoin County does have a great tradition. Probably one of the best or the best in the TVC. We're getting back there to. It started going downhill during the first half of the decade, but we've been working to get it back to where it once was the last few years. As soon as these injurees get healed up we'll be back where we should be.

comparing fball to bball is just silly
in bball, you only have to come up with 5 starters to match 5 from a bigger school

in football, you have to come up with 16ish starters

when you are trying to come up with 16 to compare to another schools 16, then the depth and numbers really become an issue..

but that is something that a bleacher fan/criticizer cant see
