Vinton County football 2009
Re: Vinton County football 2009
Havent heard that yet Ron...if and when it happens im sure it will be in the papers and on the radio. VC shouldnt waste time on finding a new coach if that is indeed what the situation is. But like I said...I havent heard that yet. Personally i think he should stay one more year. I think VC will be on the upswing over the next few years. Winning wise, Yates has dug himmself a deep hole...but i think he should at least be givin the chance to climb out.

Leave Coach Yates there and let them build a program again, all the other good Coaches they have ran off. This program needs to have someone that wants to be there and stay there for a while. I think if you look around you will see that the programs that are good year in and year out have Coaches who have been there for a long time.
Re: Vinton County football 2009
Saw in the newspaper where Coach Yates did resign. Who is going the be leading the Vikings in 2010? School Board needs to get busy, they owe it to the young men.

I hope they get that team turned around fast. Good luck this up coming year!!!
Re: Vinton County football 2009
Any news yet on the Coaching search? Plenty of rumors about Jacksons ex-coach...but what about anyone on the current staff? Games? How about an ex VC coach? I know there were rumors about that before when Yates was hired..Would Reed be willing to come back? Hopfully whatever happens, it happens soon. I think VC has some promise and could contend within 2 or 3 years with the right person in charge. Also, I just want to say congrats to Yates..some may not agree with me, but I think Yates did a decent job overall...2008 was a year of close losses...and 2009 saw the most injuries on a team I have ever seen...i know thats a part of footbal...but it was well above the average. IF the ball wouldve bounced a lil more in the Vikings direction, i think Yates would still be here. Hopfully this next hire will be the last for a long time! VC needs some stability at the head coaching position for a change. Lets get it right this time!!! Go Vikes!

I thought Wolford got out of football to spend time with his family . . . guess one year is enough time to spend with them. Now he is coming to Vinton County to rebuild a team. You better talk to some people in Jackson that really know the reasons why he quit. Nope . . . he won't be in VC

Nothing will change in VC until the Admin get behind the program and quits listening to disgruntled parents.
hire teachers who would also make good assistants. With the location of VC it is hard to find assistants that are not a product of the Program.

bengalfan76...You hit the nail exactly on the head. Some of the Admin have no back bone to stand up to the in the stand coaches. Most of the people bitching about the coach never even played, and are trying to relive their youth threw their kids. We will never get our Football program turned around with a new coach almost every year. The very one's complaining about Coach Yates, will someday realize that he wasn't that bad after all. I just hope the bitchers are happy now. Who would want to Coach here??????????

Coach's are not the problem at VC, it's the School's Admin, This is one of the only school district's that I know of that have ran off the two best coaches as far as wins go. Coach Yates did the best he could with what he had, fine young man. I do not see this changing anything as long as you still have the current Admin in the district, who by the way are there for the kids.

Re: Vinton County football 2009
Coach Wolford is an intense coach who wanted the best for Jackson Football and put a lot of himself into Jackson Football. Probably his biggest fault was letting the in the stands coaches get to him at Jackson on Friday nights, lot of stuff yelled down out of the stands you would not want your wife or your family to hear. Probably from what I have read on here Yates was getting the same thing. Who would want to deal with that on a consistent basis, especially when you were doing the best you could in the situation you had. Sounds like Wolford would have to learn to deal with the same things at Vinton County if he coaches there. If he could learn to deal with that he would make Vinton County a good coach. I would think the biggest obstacle would be getting the kids who live in the rural areas in to be part of the team. Didnt Vinton County used to have an extra bus that ran so the kids who lived out could participate? Do they still have that? Next if the better assistant coaches would stay and coach on the staff. Its just hard coming in and implimenting your program and getting everyone on the same page without some good men to help.It would have been interesting to see how Coach Wolford would have done at Jackson this past year with the teams Jackson played being down the first part of the schedule, 6 of the 7 teams did not have more than 3 wins and the majority only 1 win for their season, not saying he would have done better than Coach Hall but I would have liked to have seen the results I would have thought at least 6-4 year with him coaching.

Coach Wolford is not coming to Vinton County. It is of my opinion that Coach Wolford and Coach Yates this summer and fall will be partaking in the Scottish Game on the green hillsides of Franklin Valley or Fairgreens, if you know what I mean.

His wife does teach at VC, so he could spend more time with her. The pressure is also far less at VC than at Jackson. I for one would like to see him coach and pt the whoopin on the Ironmen for the crap he went through there.

Re: Vinton County football 2009
I want to clear something up ,if I led someone to believe that the stadium was some kind of place where the entire crowd was always on the coaches back thats not what I intended.Im not saying the majority of the people in Jackson were yelling things, in reality just about every Jackson fan is a supportive fan of their coaches and their team. 98% of the people in the stands on a Friday night are very good people and its a great community .Its like everywhere else you have a few knuckle heads that pay for their ticket and feel they have a right to yell things, thats OK to a certain point, some go beyond that point. Its just do you want to put up with that? If you do ,you grow thick skin and get selective hearing and tell your wife to stay home on Friday nights or she has to do the same and get hard of hearing. Its a choice you have to make unfortunately it todays world. Football is an emotional game, people in the stands sometimes turn from Dr. Jekell to Mr Hyde, during the course of the game, people who are not even on the team or coaching it feel they have a stake in it and its some sort of personal insult to them if the team is not doing what they think it should be doing. I for one would like to see Coach Wolford coaching again, but thats his choice. Another thing he would never feel he had to get revenge against a place that he loves the way he does Jackson. Its a game and not some kind of blood feud. Would he do a good job at Vinton County ?Certainly he would, its a game and as a coach your charged with putting your players in the best position to be successful and he would do that no matter where he was at. I think most coaches go through the choice at some point of weighing the benifits of coaching against the negatives at some point. Someone once said you have to be kind of crazy to put your career in the hands of a bunch of teenage boys to begin with.
Re: Vinton County football 2009
We'll have to kinda agree a little Charles and I'll have to kind of respectfully disagree Charles . . . the Jackson program did not change or progress under Wolford. As a matter of fact, unless I am mistaken, the numbers of players really went downhill. There was no freshman team at Jackson his last year there. A borderline Div 2 program with no freshman team! Not very good!! I will agree that one or two unhappy players or fans do not define Jackson as a school or community . . . BUT, kids not playing (no freshman team) as a whole is not good. There is/was reasons for his quiting. Now, he is supposed to be going to VC . . . a program that is totally down (players hurt (that is a lack of a weight program), numbers down, and finally the record . . . Wolford doesn't seem like the kind of coach to completely rebuild a program. It would have to start with getting numbers up, and then a coaching staff. Not sure Wolford will find a lot of his friends in the community to coach with him. My point of view is this . . . VC got what they deserved when they ran Coach Queen out of town.
Re: Vinton County football 2009
Your correct about the freshman football team coach woifords last year but that particular class has been small since peewee. The final hit their sixth grade season only involved 12 boys total from both teams, red and white. I just wanted to make sure people knew that. I liked coach wolford and I like coach Hall.
I hope VC gets on track as I like to see ALL our area teams excel!
Go Ironmen
