Re: Gallipolis (3-3) at Chillicothe (1-5) Week 7 Oct. 7
Aaahhhhhh!! Just had breakfast at Carl's Townhouse, best extra 2 inches I've added to my waistline in a while. Looking forward to a couple of burgers and potatoe soup at the Cozy for lunch, adding a few malt beverages, and there will be a Jerry's pizza and beverages post game tonight, for sure!!!!! :122245 Hey does anyone in Chilly know if Renick's is still serving breakfast, I usually try to alternate each year at homecoming, but it looked pretty dead this morning :122248 I hope the CAVS can win their homecoming tonight, but one thing is for sure, I will be five or ten pounds heavier by the end of the night LOL LET'S GO CAVS!! LET'S GO CAVS!!! LET'S GO CAVS!!!! :aaaaa8 :aaaaa8 :aaaaa8

Re: Gallipolis (3-3) at Chillicothe (1-5) Week 7 Oct. 7
Big congrats to the team and coaching staff tonight!!
This was the team I had been expecting to see most of the year. We dominated the line of scrimmage and time of possession. The post-game radio show said Chillicothe had a net 0 (zero) yards rushing for the night. Coach Hinton sounded incredibly frustrated in the post-game radio show saying that Gallia Academy played the kind of ball the he would like his team to play tonight. He said they lined up behind big #71 and ran right at us and we had no answer for it. High praise from a legendary High School coach.
Brandon Taylor had 180ish yards rushing running mostly behind Stephen Atkins and Aaron Guisinger. Cody Russell did a great job gaining significant yardage in the second half when Chillicothe started keying on Taylor. Zack Tackett was outstanding in his expanded role as FB. The coaching staff mixed in a couple of nice outside runs and play action passes out of running formations when Chillicothe got to stacking the box too much. The coaching staff shuffled the offensive line and I thought moving Briggs Shoemaker to guard paid big dividends in that he did a fantastic job picking up the blitz that we've struggled with most of the year. It was a nice win all around and the entire team and coaching staff performed well.

Some excerpts from Chillicothe Gazette
"Gallia had 18 first downs Friday night, and the Cavs had three. Gallia had 263 rushing yards Friday night, and the Cavs had minus-22."
Not to mention Gallia had 2 penalties while Chillicothe had 9. Twice Chillicothe jumped offsides giving Gallia a first down.
'Gallia controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides, running 50 times for those 263 yards on offense and holding Chillicothe behind the line in the Cavs’ 15 rushes for the game. Both of those numbers are low, but the Cavs ran just 26 plays on offense ; 15 rushes and nine passes.'
Gallia had the ball almost 38 minutes of the game. Offensive and defensive lines totally DOMINATED Chillicothes fronts. Mathis ( QB ) running for his life most of the 2nd half. Great adjustment by Gallia double covering Johnson after the 1st series
Having watched all of Chillicothe's games and scrimmages this year some observations
1. We have athletes aplenty...just not very many football players
2. Coaching staff has worked out many of the problems ( special teams play, turnovers, alignment issues ) but still need to work on penalties ( Cavs had 4 offsides penalties, 2 illegal procedures, ineligible downfield, etc ) that just killed Cavs drives and/or aided Gallias drives
3. Gallia had 32 players dressed, Chillicothe had 43....Where are all the players ? Last week Hillsboro only had 30....Is football dying out due to the amount of work and dedication needed ?
Congrats to Gallia...Your O line and D Line kicked butt tonite. Great adjustment by coaches to take Johnson out of game.

Hopsing,
Perhaps numbers are down due to economics. I'm pretty sure Gallia collects a student participation fee for each sport a student plays. I'm not sure how much it is, though. Does Chilli also have a fee?
Such fees will reduce the number of students since some low income households may not be able to afford to have their kids play.
Just a thought.
Good job by Gallia.
Good luck to Chilli the rest of the way.

Congrats to Gallia, excellent gameplan, well executed, good adjustments midgame, good win for the Devils. Pretty good assesment Hop. The thing I would add is what seemed to me that Gallia believed Chilly was soft, intended to prove Chilly was soft, and accomplished that task. The one thing I remeber from the '70 and early '80s was that OCC schools would hate playing Chilly because even though they would win the game, Chilly would beat the tar out of them physically. I do not see that kind of nastyness in Chilly football players right now. I am still a CAV, but I am a sad CAV, because I never thought I would see a Chilly team legitimately be labled soft. Hop, it takes heart, strength of character, passion, desire, and pride to play this game. It seems to be lacking in Chilly kids, and until that changes, you could bring Vince Lombardi in here and the story would be the same.Hopsing wrote:Some excerpts from Chillicothe Gazette

Give Hinton a chance. The players (and their parents) will need to buy into his system. He has a history of winning, so I think if folks calm down, the players listen to the man and execute his plan, then Chillicothe football can rebound.

I'm pretty sure Gallia's athletic fee is $90 which seems a bit steep. That is obviously going to limit the the participants.

Great Job to the Blue Devils last night!! That was the team I have been waiting to see!! You all played as a team. Keep it up for next week boys. I dont think it is the fee that has our numbers down, they do fund raisers to help offset the fee. I believe it might be the tough workout that Coach E has them doing. The boys are in top notch physical form. We have lost several of what could have been some key players becauses they did not want to go thru the program. Again, Congrats Devils, and I am already counting down for next Friday. rest. regroup and do it again!!
