Re: Week 9 (8-0) Lucasville Valley @ (7-1) Wheelersburg
Interesting Fact: Burg is 23-2 at home since 2007 during reg season. (including home games to this point in 2011)
2 losses by a combined 16 points. (Johnson central, Ironton)
While Valley is 14-9 on the road during the same time period
Just saying

All Valley needs to be is 1-0 on the road friday night! I think a lot of people are mistaking the posts so far. Valley KNOWS this will not be a walk in the park, no matter what anyone says from either school....or other schools. Its going to be a great game and I look forward to making the 3:45 minute drive to see it. (yes, Im driving from Indianapolis just for this game) GO INDIANS!!!
Re: Week 9 (8-0) Lucasville Valley @ (7-1) Wheelersburg
Valley will be the most talented team on the field Friday. They have been at times in the past though.

Readin some of these posts it sounds like the burg might as well just roll over and play dead and just had the game to valley. Just sayin. Valley may win but it will not be as bad as some of the predictions.
With that bein said i look for this to be a hard fought game between two really good teams. The winner will be the team who makes the fewest mistakes. I'm takin the burg by 7 in a "UPSET"

Reading some of these posts, it also seems like Valley is just not allowed to have a darn good football teamMad_Dogg wrote:Readin some of these posts it sounds like the burg might as well just roll over and play dead and just had the game to valley. It's gonna be a very good one. I can't wait for it. I'm not takin anything from valley they are a very good team and are coached by a very good coach. This will be a very good game. It's also gonna be a cold one with temps in the mid to high 50's and lows in the mid 30'schicken_coop wrote:Reading some of these posts, it also seems like Valley is just not allowed to have a darn good football teamMad_Dogg wrote:Readin some of these posts it sounds like the burg might as well just roll over and play dead and just had the game to valley. The weather is a great point...I know the high is 56* and kickoff is anticipated to be right around 45*...crisp and cool. Perfect for a game like this.

Re: Week 9 (8-0) Lucasville Valley @ (7-1) Wheelersburg
I'm still anxiously waiting for some more folks to discuss what they think each team will/won't do well. I saw Burg use several different formations last night. They went with a 2-1 look (twin receivers on one side and one receiver on the other), trips, two TE's with a WR to each side and a single back in the backfield, double TE fullhouse T backfield, etc...Shears in the shotgun, Shears under center.
Come on folks, if you've seen this team play, surely there is plenty about the actual way they play the game that we can talk about. I'd love to have a week full of more than just the same old banter back and forth.

I sure can't help you. I don't go to games to "scout" them, I just go to watch and enjoy them. I never look to see if they have trips or fourps or fivps. Seems like you and Crab4 (?) are the only men that seems to watch every play and every formation and what the refs do on every play. That seems like work to me, not enjoyment.
You pretty much described everything Wheelersburg did last night, what else do you want to hear? It's a long time til Friday and there seems to be only so much you can say about each team.
Although I did hear someone today say that they ran a wide wing T, 30 counter, run pass option and pulled the right guard to pick up the DE with the QB sneaking out to the left flat as an outlet and ran it on a quick count pretty effectively.
Your turn. .
(lighten up a little bit. This ain't THE HOLY GRAIL being sought here.)

Oh, 'bout forgot. I did hear that both teams are pretty good and sneaky about holding on the edges but Wheelersburgs Sophomores wouldn't be able to hold Valley's Seniors.

Im ready for this friday to get here and be over with...
Re: Week 9 (8-0) Lucasville Valley @ (7-1) Wheelersburg
If Valley's coach makes the same mistake that he has made every year vs Burg then Burg wins. If he finally realizes what that is and changes it then Valley wins. I look for Burg to show a completely different offense than what they have showed to date just to give crabby a brain contusion.
Burg 21

Would you install a whole new offense in a must win game? I say "must win" because with a share of the SOC, and a ton of points on the line, it feels like a must win, eventhough the loser is not out of contention for either (SOC, playoffs) I mean you're 7-1, and in the playoff hunt...sitting at #9 in the region, this Burg team is in control of where they can go, as is Valley. So much on the line friday night! (finally some football talk, THANK YOU SPAMONY!! LOL)SPAMONY wrote:If Valley's coach makes the same mistake that he has made every year vs Burg then Burg wins. wb- 50 hybrid defense
vhs - spread offense run and pass evenly out of it. use playmakers in various formations very well. qb same # same skills
wb- multi formations run pass as needed always seem to be adjusting to what the d is givin. qb same # same skills.
vhs- 40/a little 50
wb- special teams creative
vhs- regular but could have something cookin for friday
what else?????? coop

Games like these come to down to line play... and after the way valley's lines played against west I see valley breaking the streak this year...

Or maybe Burg looked at thier schedule seen that they had no competition weeks 2 thru 8 showed nothing but worked on a game plan in practice for 7 weeks to add an element of surprise to upend 2 very good teams in weeks 9 & 10 to secure another gold football. Just like they did against a heavily favored Minford team last year.

If he is not tackled before the ball gets there, it is a TD.
Also, take away that first drive of Minford's and they have 60 some yards of total offense. SIXTY!!!!!!!!!
You can sit here all day and compare scores but it never matters in games like this. You throw out the common opponents and the scores. Valley will come into this game sky high as will the Burg. I think the Burg needs this to be a low scoring game like 14-7. If they try to get in a shootout with Valley, it will get ugly. Burg will need to control the ball for long periods of time. Sometimes the best defense is your offens. If Valley doesn't have the ball on offense, makes it a little harder for them to score.
On a side note. Valley, if you do win, don't come out onto the field like you just won the Superbowl and tear the beejezzus out of the turf. * * COUGH* * COUGH* Like Minford did in 2000 *COUGH* *COUGH* Even though the field is coming up after the last game (maybe, Burg could still host in week 11 if they win out) against West, they still have to play a game on it the next week.
Good luck Pirates and here is to an injury free game.
Superbowl? Are you kidding? I see no reason for people to not get excited over a big win. And the field? How could you even tear up Burgs field? It is terrible. And its grass, not turf.
Sorry Yabba, but that is a pretty classless post. And they might as well get the trophy polished up to give to Valley Friday. I have seen both play and if Valley's bus doesnt break down on 335, and the Valley kids play hard, this one wont even be close. Burg will finish 7-3 and I dont think that gets them into week 11. Valley will finish 10-0 and the region will come down to them and Nelsonville York.
Valley 42
Burg 14
Cry me a river. Where do you get off thinking that the INT goes for a TD. Half of Burg's team was heading towards the sidelines to stop him when the whistle blew. As for the holding, didn't you clowns hire those clowns??? How many POI's against Minford did they whistle? One and that was after the Burg defender had caught the ball did then ref throw the flag.
Classless post!!!!! Yeah, I'll agree, The burg's field is in terrible shape now but it wasn't back in 2000 when your classless fans were literally ripping up chunks of the grass to take with them. Trust me, I was in the endzone and watched them walk off the field with it in there hands.
That is all I'll say to you because this is a Burg-Valley thread.
Like I said before, Burg will have to control the ball on offense to keep Valley's offense off the field. Everyone in the area knows they can score, but they can't score if they don't have the ball. I also believe that the two DE's for the Burg will be the fastest that Valley's tackles have seen all year. The thing I like about Burg's defense is that this team knows how to tackle and by that I mean they grab the ball carrier by the ankles and if he don't go down then, it slows him up enough for help to show up.
Good luck Pirates. You guys can win this.
