I still think Valley has the nicest stadium in the county. It has plenty of seating on both sides, plus parking, plus the best darn popcorn around. It doesn't matter what the weather was going to be like when the Burg plays out to Valley, my wife would be going just for the popcorn.LOL

Actually, when I was a junior....we hosted a home playoff game against Liberty Union. That place WAS PACKED. But they brought in stands for the endzone and etc. But what an atmosphere that was looking up from the field to the stands.

That is still my all time favorite atmoshpere. We alumni were talking about that at the West game...there was nothing better than a drive half the field you hear the cheering, and then the other half as you finish the drive the boooooos all over the place...walking down the hill through the gravel, nothing like it.

I agree, when they did it, they did it right...I think there is plenty of seating, as well as standing room. I think building a concession for the visitors was also a great idea.

I kind of have a feeling that this game, and thread, will win the competition for most post about one game this season.........

Yabba - Enjoy your posts, buddy.

Jesco - You know where I stand with you, utmost respect. We will meet one day, and have a great time talking. I've already had the pleasure of meeting Yabba and his brother, and count them as friends.
Would expect nothing less of our encounter, when it does happen!

This game, as I have already said on record, is game of the week, and one of the best of the season. NY and Athens will be another, just like Monroe Central and Barnesville was last week.

Thanks Steely. Always enjoy reading your insights on the games.

Would be a good one for you to come and see. If you've never been to Ed Miller stadium, now would be the time as it will look totally different next year.

Man, it was nice to get on here and not see any of that other BS that had been going on.

With all the rain that is predicted for Wednesday, the field will be an absolute mess come Friday night, especially if there is a soccer game this week. Burg people will be the first to tell you that the field looks the worst this year than it ever has. I would be leive the reason being is that it is coming out at the end of the season and the new field turf will be going down.

Does a sloppy field favor either team? That could be a huge factor Friday night.

crab_apple4 pointed out a few pages ago (which got lost in the muck) that with what the Valley line showed against West, lining up and pounding it, could advantage the Indians. I know they had a 94 yard TD drive vs West in which EVERY play was a run. Keller is a great, strong back who hits the hole and doesnt do too much dancing. I think it will certainly make things interesting. It's a shame the field is this way, it could actually hurt the home team. From what I've read, doesnt Burg count on Shears (sp?) ability to make cuts and moves? With a sloppy turf out there, could be a problem.

I am still somewhat shocked that in week 9, Valley is still mostly looked at as a flashy, spread team....when infact they can play some physical ball. Days are counting down, CANT WAIT!!!!

You Valley fans have to realize that wink is not from the Burg and quit paying attention to him.
Hey, Jesco is not from the burg either so you should stop paying attention to him as well.

i mean, fair is fair.

But he is from Valley so he has a legit reason to here and discussing the game. You on the other hand are from Minford and are on here for one reason and one reason only. To start trouble and rile things up.

I am not sure Miller staduim can handle a much bigger crowd than we had out at the Valley and West game ?

I just hope noone is injured because of the conditions.

WB has always been a great venue for football. I'm sure the new additions will only enhance an already electric atmosphere.

Wow, sounds like it will be basically a cow pasture. Thats a shame.

Steely Dan,

Thank you very much! That respect is definitely mutual and I look forward to us getting a chance to take in a game and talk a while myself.

The field is in the worst shape that I have ever seen it.

I would guess that soccer does worse damage to a field than football does because of the mere fact the soccer has players running and sliding on almost the entire field, where football is played mostly in the middle. Throw in the fact that Freshman and also JV play on that field and it has taken a beating. To me, field turf is a no brainer. Sure, it might be expensive but over the long haul it will be well worth it.

I'm going to say that the difference in this game will be the Valley DE's. If they can contain Shears then all is well. On the other hand, if they allow him to run free it might be a long night. As for the sloppy field conditions, I think Valley will have the upper hand. Their line is extremely physical and they showed it 2 weeks ago. I don't expect a blowout of any sort to occur. I'm saying Valley 35-28. I look forward to a great, injury free, game to take place friday night. GO INDIANS!!!!!!!!

I just finished watching the Valley/Chesapeake game on watchthezone.com and here's a few things that I came away with.

First off, Chesapeake kicking game/special teams was horrendous. They consistently gave Valley the ball right around mid field on just about every possession. Their kickoffs were horrible. They would run in mass at the ball and kick it and it wouldn't go very far or they would line up for the kick, the kicker would back up about 8 yards, and then the up man would take one step and kick the ball about 25 or 30 yards giving Valley great field posistion. The punter was the worst I've seen in a while. He would take off running to his left every time and then try to kick the ball and it would only go a short distance and that on sides kick in the 4th quarter was a cluster_ _ _ _ from the get go. I've never seen one executed that poorly.

Now, while the Burgs kicking game isn't as good as it has been in the past few years, unless the Indians get good run backs they will not get the ball around the 50 every possession so they shouldn't have the short field to work with. Also Shears is the punter and he has a pretty good leg.

Valley on offense.

Burg will have to wrap up Keller. That boy is a beast. You can not tackle him high because he will run through the tackle. He looks very strong and keeps his legs churning the whole time he's running. If the Pirates don't wrap him up and gang tackle him he will make them pay. Number 6 and number 25 are also very good backs and pick up the slack for Keller. Yates can run very well also and is very elusive. He also throws a nice ball when given time. The Burg needs to get pressure on him and get him out of the pocket and then contain him from getting around the corner on scrambles. As for him being the best athlete on the field, I personally don't think he's the best on his own team. I would give that to Keller. He is big, strong, fast, and very elusive. He can run around you and through you if need be. Someone needs to keep track of him where ever he goes. He is also very good on pass routes and has great hands.

Valley on defense.

Chesapeake didn't really impress me that much and they moved the ball fairly well through the air on Valley. I know it was only week #3 and they have more than likely gotten better, but McMaster had time to get off some decent passes and his recievers seemed to be able to get open. If the Burgs line can give Shears time to pass I think they can have some success through the air and that will open up some lanes for the running game. Chesapeake had some success running the ball between the tackles because of the passing game and their runners ran very hard. O'Brian and Hood both run very hard and could do well between the tackle as well. Shears is going to have to do a good job on the read and know when to pull it back and run with it and when to let the back have it. Valley swarms to the ball very well and are very strong and physical up front. If Shears can pull off the fake and get around the end he may have some nice runs.

Valley will definitely be a handful for the Pirates, but I think if they play a good solid game and limit the mistakes like turnovers and penalties they have a good chance to compete with the Indians and win this game.

Burg_grad if u think putting valley deep in their own territory will stall their offense go watch the west game.. I think valley had to drives for 80 yards and one for 94 without throwing a pass... the difference in this game is the lineplay and the size advantage that valley has... while size is not everything I believe valley's lines will play very physical as they did against west...
