OVC Fan 32... why cant you just say both teams were playing their first game of the season and like most high school teams they made mistakes but played hard. Peake broke a long run for a TD early when a Defensive end came up field and and was trapped and some tackles were missed . The other score came on a punt return that the Oak Hill kids thought had been downed. During the game their main gains on the ground were from a QB Counter and a HB counter in the first half and it was hit and miss, anytime they tried to sweep or run at Oak Hill they did not do much. In the second half the counters into the sideline were pretty shut down by the defense. Any movement of the ball later in the game was helped by OakHill shooting themselves in the foot by penalties and even then Peake did not score. I thought as a TEAM there was more positive than negative both sides of the ball. The Oaks went in at halftime and corrected some things and then played much better on both sides of the ball. I thought the 3 step protection was pretty good last night, sure there were some breakdowns but mainly when throwing Play action passes. Peake was bringing the house on about every play and with a play action scheme you cannot pick up everyone. Later they were burned by a bootleg pass to a back in the flats for touchdown because of it and they paid for it. I thought Weston had a good game over all he gained 134 yards rushing not a bad night, especially with 22 passes being thrown. I guess there are always the coaches in the stands who really are not around the team, not with them at practice , and with no real knowledge of the kids of their strengths and weaknesses and do not know anything about them what they can do well and what they are still trying to do well that have their opinion. I really find it interesting that on other threads when someone wins a game people just say good job, but not an Oak Hill thread people just would rather be critical and bitch.

I watched a somewhat different game than OVC fan32. #2 for Oak Hill had over 90 yards receiving and 70 yards rushing, scoring 4 touchdowns. Thats more than Chesapeake's total offense for the night. I have much respect for Coach Davis and Coach Wells, as I know them personally. I read all week that Chesapeake had the better line. Now I read they had the best coached skill kids. Somehow the stats and the score of the game indicate a different scenario. Good luck to the Panthers the rest of the year.

That running back lit Peake up for 170yds on 20 carries and 53 yds on 2 recs, 227 total yds of offense, yeah he still has some stuff to work on but he already knows that,he's only a Jr. so he still has some time to work things out, he also had 10 stitches put in his hand at halftime. I guess he'll just have to get stitched up every week if it gets those kind of results.
The most important thing is that OH got the victory, in the end that is all that matters, it shouldn't matter who did this or who did that, the main goal is to win and that is what the players should be focusing on. One player is not going to beat a team by themselves, it takes everyone playing in unison to be a very successful team.

Stats for the game Oak Hill 465 yards 22 first downs 279 yards on 38 carries , Peake 135 yards ( 76 yards on one run by Freyre he had 80 yards in 8 carries) The Oak Hill Defense allowed Chesapeake 31 yards in the second half only 5 yards on the ground Chesapeake punted as many times as they had first downs 7 . Probably the biggest mistakes of the game were the new rule on punt ball is not down until the whistle blows (you just dont touch it and its down)and the kids had been told that, however they thought the ball was down and the Peake kid was smart enough to know the whistle had not blown. three 15 yard penalties for 45 yards allowed Peake to get close in the second half and then they fumbled.
Weston Hale -Oak Hill Running back game high 168 yards in 21 Carries
Joey Maynard #2- Scored twice rushing and receiving , 7 carries 73 yards
5 receptions for 92 yards
Jesse Sloane Oak Hill QB-186 Yards passing two touchdowns

not from either community just checking out the recap to see how Oak Hill did. A little FYI, downing the ball on a punt is not a new rule it has been around for 20 or 30 yrs. at least. what you describe is simply "first touching" of a scrimmage kick apparently Chesapeake has a special teams coach who knows and understands the rule. The punting team needs to cover the ball up and kill it. If a player just touches it and walks away it is still a live ball. If the return team goes in and attempts to field a ball that has been touched by the punting team they don't have much to lose. If they muff it and the punting team recovers they receiving team has the choice of taking the result of the play or getting the ball at the spot of first touching. Same if they return the ball 40 or 50 yds. if they fumble they have the choice of getting the ball at the spot of first touching. The only way they lose this privledge is if they commit a penalty after the first touching. A clue for the kids is that the covering official will drop a bean bag at the spot. If a kid sees this he should run in and get the ball he is going to get it back any way.
Sounds like the "Peake" has an official for special teams coach.

He is just a Peake person, not a critical Oak Hill person. I haven't seen a critical Oak Hill person yet on here.
