Good job oaks on a great win. Getting off to a great start this season but the true test for this team is going to come these next few weeks. I see the oaks going 7-3. Losing to tremble east and minford.

lol it's not bashing. Just a fact. I wish RV the best but things need to change if RV wants some success.

WHY??

I have seen you do nothing but get on RV threads and BASH them......what is the point!?!?!? I just dont understand, why you BASH a school in your HOME county!?!?!

A lot of what you say is true.......right up until the time you started talking football! First of all, Who is going to put pressure on the coach to win??? Definitely not the system. If they had their way about it, there wouldn't be sports period in RV!!! I have heard that right out of the superintendents own mouth!!! So who is else is there to apply pressure??? Second: Coach M. is doing the best that he can. He is a good coach, but there are only so much that a coach can do. His coaching staff is well educated in the game also, so it isn't the coaching staff. The team gets absolutely no support other than the coaching staff. When is the last time that RV has put a marching band on the field???? I know tat isn't football, but do you see where I'm headed with this??? was also told that they are not even allowed to hold pep rallies this year!!!!!! WTF!!!!!! Do you think maybe that we should quit bashing the players and the coaching staff, and start asking the powers to be why!!!!!! RV has 6 seniors this year. All skilled players except 1. The rest are freshmen and sophomores how do you propose that they compete with that? They would have one heck of a JV team!!!! As for the weights...... one of the asst. coaches had the wights for two years pror to this year, and had the most kids in the history of the school benching over 300, and squatting over 500!!!. So you see.... it isn't always about the kids or the coaching staff, they are not making excuses, they are paying with the hand that have been dealt, and coaching every play to win, but the odds are far too great to overcome. My hat is off to Coach M. and the young Raiders. Hopefully someday they will get it all turned around, and you all will have to find someone else to bash!!!!!

The Raiders however may never have the right attitude to put a winning team on the field if they can't do it within these next few years. I wish the Raiders could just get that program turned around as an alumni. This one will unfortunately get out of hand quick. Oaks 49 Raiders 6.

Nothing like good supportive "alumni" to stand behind a football team.

Best of luck to the Raiders...anything can happen on Friday night!

The problem at RV has been and still is people like you who accept a 2-8 or 3-7 season (in a good year) and tell them it's okay. I wore that uniform, and after some games, we needed to be told we stunk, but losing was just kind of acceptable. No pressure has ever been put on any coach to win. Parents also get to involved and it has always been a political circus filled with players out of position and playing there because that is where they want to play. I only want the best for RV, but until the district and supporters stop treating poor performance on the field as an "A" for effort, winning will not be the way at RV. From what I hear though, Coach McClelland has been very serious about the wight room (and it's about time somebody has been). If he keeps this up and doesn't get caught up in the political circus, RV will win eventually. If not, the Raiders will keep getting pounded by schools who take football and other athletics seriously. Another thing about RV is the unwillingness to play the young guns, even when they are better than the veterans. Sometimes, a freshman is ready to get in the big game! Congrats to the Oaks. Boy they look like a very good football team.

Everyone needs to get some air or smoke a cigarette or something and calm down. Everyone expected this to happen in this game. Oak Hill's a pretty darn good team and River Valley hasn't been good for 6 or 7 years now.
It sounds like the people up that way need to do some house-cleaning in the administration, starting at the top. To let an athletic team, especially in a big revenue sport like football, fall into such ruin is disgraceful and embarrassing to kids and fans and the school itself.

Well put! The current administration (SUPT) Hates athletics, she spends no money on sports and the results are visible!

Well its not going to get any better soon. Not planning on how to operate these new schools will take even more money away from the athletic programs.

GG, I think you are thinking of the Academy with their $40k electric bill.

This is a ridiculous thread. A bunch of adults talking smack to each other about a game none of them are currently playing.

Move on with your lives. Nothing of any value can come of this.

i heard the electric bill was around $22,000.00 monthly which was not taken into cosideration when the design was accepted.Build big,pay big!

CRAZY- sometimes the truth hurts, let people discuss stuff not everyone is anti RV we in the county want to see all schools do well. I think the RV adminstration needs some heat, they have not given the kids an even playing field when it comes to sports. Football can be a huge moneymaker for the school in every department if they just produce a winner. get a clue

I will be interested to see Oak Hill play Minford. Oak Hill had 3 prize bull defensive down linemen and at least 2 of them were sophomores. #56 was stacked up like a college player and all three were absolutely punishing until the whistle blew. We tend to focus on linebackers but these 3 were something to watch.

My hat is off to the RV QB, who bore the brunt of these three gentlemen's punishment all night. On one play, #55 rolled his helmet 15 yds. I will be curious to see how these three are handled in the future by more experienced offensive lines. Regardless, the other teams will have their hands full.

I do not know their names but their numbers were 55, 56 and 70-something. If they are all underclassmen then they will bear watching in both this season and those to come. RV may have not been the best test for them but I feel that they may have been as good as any I have seen for a long time and I have seen several.

56 is Chris Fairchild and 55 is Brock Maple. Both of those players are only sophomores while 78- Drew Cannon is a junior.

WOW! These 3 are going to cause some real problems in the next couple of years! I would really like to watch them against a different opponent. I understand that they play Minford in week 5, is that correct?

Oak Hill 49-0

You can't just change one coach and expect a huge change. You need new coaches with new ideas. It gets old seeing the Varsity loose doing the same crap as in the past and then watching the JV do the exact same thing on Monday. If don't work the first 100 times find something new.

Your number MAY be accurate, I don't know, but I can tell you that whatever it is, it's cheaper than the sprawling plexiglass Hellhole was to heat and cool. It's not that big. Again, you are thinking of the new GA, which is enormous with a ton of wasted space. RV is a pretty sensible place as far as layout goes. I promise, they did consider operational costs and made certain choices accordingly.

So why then can't the athletic programs get any financial support?

I haven't kept up on River Valley over the years since they consolidated but back in the day (60's - 70's)Kyger Creek won all kind of SVAC titles , Southwestern had some good teams in the late 70's early 80's and North Gallia also held their own most of the time in most sports. You would think with those three schools coming together they would at least have decent teams. I didn't know about them not having a band either. Have all the "old" alumni families with kids and/or good athletes moved away or since consolidation is there just too much infighting among the community and administration ? If the latter is the case, then that's a shame.

If you wanna know how unimportant athletics are at RV, just look at their new gym. It seats about 40 people!! The RV GA basketball games will be an interesting situation this year. They also have no A/C in the gym. Education is most important, but please care for athletics a little bit. It pains me to see it, because I went through it. As a three sport athlete, I saw it year round. Athletics are treated as have to do's by the Super. and others. Don't forget, SG suffers as well. You are right RV Fan. No support. Is there even still a boosters?
