Ok, the TVC league meeting was on Tuesday. It is now Friday and still not a word from any of the newspapers on this! Same thing happened when South Gallia joined and Belpre moved to the Hocking - it was like a week later before the newspapers even reported it.

Thank God for this website! :-D

It's not that didn't believe the post on here....but just got confirmation- DONE DEAL- Wahama in TVC. I bet they will miss those five hour bus trips through the mountains of "God's Country". Good move for the school. They will be very successful.

The TVC is growing rapidly. However, there is a key difference between the TVC and SEOAL expansions........the TVC expansion has all been done by adding districts that already bordered the current league districts - Athens was right smack in the middle of TVC Country; Wahama is across the river, but borders Meigs. South Gallia, while further down the road, is part of the same district that includes River Valley, which boarders Southern Meigs.

These have been very calculated moves. Expand by taking in neighboring districts. Consolidate the area districts into one league, and then place them in either the big school or small school division, based on school size. Brilliant move.

Only question is, will the TVC finally let Warren back in??? I doubt Jackson would ever get the yes votes, but I still have hope for Warren. It's a perfect fit.

I also believe that River Valley would be a unanimous yes vote into the Ohio Division in light of the recent expansion. Especially if some TVC schools don't want any school larger than Athens in. River Valley becomes a perfect fit.

Wahama just made Point Pleasant more of a possibility for the Ohio too.

For not releasing information to the media until a week after the fact, and for not having a league commissioner, the TVC schools have done a good job with appropriate expansion.

Now this is funny. Alexander was heard to have said Trimble is no competition...:) And Miller is. I hope Miller beats them....

I smell bad wrote:I think you guys are missing something here. The more teams there are in a league, the better chance the top teams have of making the playoffs. That is why when the MVL had a 9 game league schedule, they routinely put 3-4 teams in the playoffs. Look at it this way: if you have 11 teams in a league you will probably have a 10-0 team, a 9-1 team, an 8-2 team and a 7-3 team. Those teams, if D6, probably will make the playoffs, because they have beaten several teams with winning records. The 10-0 team will have beaten a 9-1 team, an 8-2 team, a 7-3 team, a 6-4 team and a 5-5 team. In fact, only one of their opponents will have 0 wins. I remember times when Trimble made the playoffs with 2 or 3 0-10 teams on their schedule. So as far as getting into the playoffs, the bigger league helps. Not so sure about preparing them for the playoffs though.

This is absolutely correct and the expansion virtually guarantees playoff spots with the way the region typically shakes out. There have been years when three or four teams went 1-4 or 0-5 before the league season even started. In those cases, if your non-league teams didn't win games, either, then you were screwed.

As an example, Waterford missed the playoffs at 9-1 a couple years ago partly because the conference only won seven non-league games and three of their own non-league opponents won a game each. With the automatic ten conference wins, that is a total of 20 wins to gain computer points amongst eight opponents. With an eight game league schedule, at 8-0, they would automatically have 28 wins to accumulate second level points, which would have put them close to a #4 seed.

First off I don't think Jackson would get the votes to gain acceptance and Gallia Acad. has no real interest in playing most our teams. Trust me in this most of our teams would't fair well against these two on a year in year out basis anyway, sure the better teams in the Ohio would compete but just a bunch of embarrassing losses for most of the schools. Just look at the history between a Wellston (a typical challenger for the Ohio crown) vs Jackson. Not taking anything away from Wellston but Jackson usually wins this game even in down years. GAHS would do the same most years. River Valley is the best option for expansion in my opinion followed by Warren Local. These two school from a football standpoint would be competitive but not dominating (kind of the same as Athens). Also the all sports trophy would be more competitive for the bigger schools in the league.

What sports does Wahama participate in? Do they have cross country or wrestling?

The 3 division idea has been explored several times, as recently as this past week with the current 15 members including Wahama. With the current membership, the 3 divisions would look like this soley based on boys enrollment.

Large
--------------
Athens 363
Vinton 296
Meigs 223
Alex 206
Wellston 181

A difference of 182 boys between largest to smallest.

Medium
--------------
NY 161
Belpre 140
FH 138
Wahama 125 (Their enrollment data from 2008-09 grades 9-10-11 was 125 boys and 98 girls)
Trimble 112

A difference of 36 boys between largest to smallest.

Small
---------------
South Gallia 100
Miller 97
Eastern 95
Southern 91
Waterford 90

A difference of 10 boys from largest to smallest.

This would give you 6 nonconference games and 4 conference games. If you played any crossover games, they would be considered nonconference. Much better chance for schools to build their schedules to better prepare their teams for post-season play OR build a schedule to cut down on travel time by scheduling closer nonconference teams to play.

IF there is any chance of going to 3 divisions, and I don't think there is a this time, it would have to be with the above mentioned teams.

I really don't think the ADs put much thought into this because the push was to get S.G. into the conference and have a member move down (Belpre) so the Ohio would not have the rotating nonconference game on the schedule that was creating a scheduling nightmare for Ohio schools looking for games in week 6 thru 10.

With Wahama coming into the TVC, you now have an odd number of teams which recreates the above problem in the Hocking that was just solved in the Ohio.

No way will schools like Vinton be supportive of adding any larger schools to the Ohio since they are getting burnt by the addition of Athens to the Ohio. In the TVC you must pass a resolution with 75% of the members voting in favor. With 15 members, that means you need 11 votes and with the difference in the number of boys between the largest and smallest schools in the Ohio being 202 boys, adding an more schools in the Ohio will be hard unless a realignment of members happens.

I really think the 15 members ought to look at realigning the membership into 3 divisions as described above, but I don't think they will.
