Lang may not be the best QB on this team, but you have to use your players to their strength. I think Shank is the best option at RB, and on a running team that's where you want your best player. As far as passing goes I agree they need to start passing more now. No mercy on the SOC teams, the starters need to play full games regardless of the score. There's no rule that says you have to take it easy on an opponent like Burg did with Portsmouth this year. If the team can't compete it's not your fault. Keep the starters in and get them ready for a playoff game. It doesn't matter if Burg runs up the score, they are already hated anyway so it wouldn't change a thing.

Score if Burg has Swine Flu
BURG 28
MINFORD 0

Score if Burg is healthy and plays starters the whole game
BURG 76
MINFORD 1 (Burg kicks an extra point through the wrong goal)

Just heard from my buddy that Lang, Shank, and the other 2 QBs (wow they have 4QBs?) all missed school today and weren't expected to be there tomorrow. Said that one of the coaches played qb in practice. Also the center and one of the tackles were out today. News just keeps getting worse and from a reliable source. Any news on the 3 starters that were out last week? I think I'm getting sick just hearing about this. This could ruin a possivle great season.

You know this thread is looking more and more like the Minford- Oak Hill one last week, maybe we come out like the oaks did last week. In my opinion Minford shoud be able to play very free this week, no one is giving them a chance. Even if there is a flu bug in burg apparently it doesn't matter because to hear everyone talk the burg freshman team could beat Minford by two td's. Usually I would say players shouldn't read this site, but this week I hope every Minford player gets on here and reads this stuff, they should be absolutely insulted and take it very personally. Should be no problem to play with a chip on your shoulder, maybe even have some of that old swagger valley attitude. Everyone can say what they want but you will see a much better team that last week, nothing against oak hill but that was not Minfords best performance by a long shot. I hope the Falcons can cash in on a very confident burg team and get a win this week.

It could be good to be sick now and not thursday. Alot of flu's are 24 hr or 48 hr. sicknesses.
So if thats true get it out of their system and ready for Friday! We hope. But their health is 1st in the books though!

I've yet to see the Burg play this year, have they improved a lot since the Ironton game ? I see they've got 2 shutouts since then and have put up a lot of points on offense. :?:

i believe the have improved as a team. can they get better--- yes. they do seem to be playing like a team--rather then just playing the game. thats the biggest improvment that i see. more than anything else they are not reading or believing what people are saying but they are believing in the system, the tradition and the work ethic that the past players installed and now making an identity for their Team.

u must be setting by a lot of fans-- and those fans are the same ones that were saying last year that we need lang in there so we can throw the ball. watching the game with my old team mates we seem to think the young men are getting IT. its not about who is QB or TB its about believing in each other along with the fundamentals of blocking and tackling.

Look Im just saying what I hear and what I think!
I didnt hear anyone saying that Burg needed lang in there last season. after shanks game with ironton I think most were pretty pleased.

Go ahead and think that they are getting "IT"
And you wil see another 2nd round dismissal , as much as I hate it.
blocking and fundamentals are fine and good in the film room and on the practice field, but in the playoffs when facing a team you've never played before and know nothing about and they come in bigger and control that line, like Ironton did, you're gonna need a passing game!! Now if Lang is that guy to step up and pass it, by all means, great! Until then I'm not convinced. THEY NEED TO PASS!! I've watched too many times these past few seasons where 1st or 2nd round departures couldve been won by a passing game.

I have also seen teams lose the game by the pass. I think ----what we need to say is pass when not expected with hitches, curls and flats/ screens. Go deep a few times a game---out of all formations. Do not be predictable. Being predictable in curtain formations is what makes a QB look bad. All in all when passing Lang needs to just be patient. Remember this is his 1st year as the Full time QB. Time at the position is his best friend.

By the way Minford will come ready to play. i have seen it too many times. After a loss ---good teams correct mistakes and re-group. so we need to prepare a little harder this week. Dont believe the scores on here.

Burg is one that could have beaten LU with the pass last year, Shank couldnt throw the ball on the roll out for whatever reason. They gave us the pass and we didnt capitalize. Nuff said. Lang and Shank can throw the ball this year. We seen it against Ironton in 2nd half for stegman but havent utilized it since. SECRET! LOL, the running game is so good, we cant pass it up to get ahead of teams in our conferense and secure an SOC and then a playoff. Then u worry about the pass? Look at any teams locker room on the wall in the soc and u see the soc crown as #1. If you can run it to win, u do it. Worry about the playoffs later. Playoffs dont get money for the Burg or West or Minford.

As for this game, Burg needs to keep running it left, right, middle! Minford will not want to stretch Burg but gain the yards up the middle. Hall and Parsley need to be on thier A game and fill the gaps. GO BURG GO! No passing here!! RUN for the SOC2 and feel good!! LOL!! This should be a great game!

IMO it was because they kept rolling him to the left and making him try to throw across his body. Shoot, college QB's have trouble with that pass, but still yet Burg keeps running it. That is a very hard throw to make. Stegman, Bendolph or Kemper at TE has not been utilized enough and like was said above, unless Burg changes it up come playoff time, whoever they play will stuff 10 guys in the box and force them to throw. The only difference I see in this years Burg team is that they are running alot more sweeps this year instead of trying to run everything up the middle like they tried against LU.

They are now into the tough part of the schedule, the league games so you won't have the SP's or the RH's or Ptown to beat up on. These next 5 weeks they are going to have to bring it every game. Even NW is playing a lot better this year and Vally has vastly improved. Minford, Waverly and West always play Burg tough and this year won't be any different. Strap on the helmet boys and bring the wood every game and good luck the rest of the season.

Neutron-What did you say in 2007? We could pass the ball and still lost in the second round of playoffs. We had a QB throw for over 1700 yards.I bet you said we need to run the ball more.Maybe you need tosupport a team at what they do best.We have a old school coach that is run first.and it might just work.If Ironton can do it so can we. So get off the kids backs.
