A couple of questionable play calls by the Burg really puzzled me. The first one was why are they passing with a 9 point lead and around two minutes left in the half? Why not just run out the clock and go in with a 9-0 lead? Especially since you get the ball to open the 2nd half. The other was why pass when it's 3 and 5 and you have two downs to get 5 yards and they end up with a field goal instead of a TD. The 2-pt conversion try was also a mystery. Kick the XP and take your chances in OT.
Oh well. Minford just seemed to want it more and outplayed the Pirates for 2 1/4 quarters. The Burg owned the first half up until the INT and Minford pretty much dominated the rest of the game with the exception of the Burgs last drive.
Once again, congrats to the Falcons and good luck the rest of the year. From the sounds of the West/Waverly score they will have their hands full next week.
Pirates need to shake this one off and win out or they be starting basketball early in the Burg this year.
Good post-- I was at the game and am also puzzled why burg would chance that pass right before the half. In my mind that changed the momentum of the game. It gave Minford life going to half-time.
Just like most games against two good teams it comes down to mistakes- who makes them and who doesn't. The pass before half and the fumble on the 2nd half kick-off were back-breakers for the burg.
I thought that if the game went overtime the falcons would be in trouble.For me, it is hard to understand why burg did not kick the PAT and take their chances in OT. In my mind, I thought it showed a lack of respect for the opponent and this also came back to haunt the burg.
This was a great high school game to watch and wish both teams the best of luck the remainder of the season.
Great game FALCONS!!! You pulled this one out and we're so proud of you. Burg played a hard faught game and as was said, it was decided in the trenches. Lets go out and do this again.
