I think this may turn out to be a really good game!! Vinton county has looked pretty good at times this year and we all know that Meigs is a better team than what there record shows!

After Watching Meigs Last Friday Night. There is no way this team should be 1-5. They have to feel snake bit. Miegs gets a well deserved win Meigs 24 Vinton 7

meigs has had only 1 game that they got beat. the rest they where in until the whistle sounded. no excuses the other teams won but they DID NOT crush meigs. hold your heads up kids.
I like how you and most everyone else say how Meigs will win easy against VC, but I like your post here. You could almost say you were talking to the VC kids. Yes we are down this year, injuries have hurt us, but that is part of the game every coach faces. But we have young kids playing and getting experience every game. We have nothing to lose, everyone has beaten us even before we even play. Sometimes playing a team like VC can be dangerous. On any given night you can never know what will happen. I know your coach very well and Meigs is lucky to have a quality coach and greater person. When we play Meigs it is always a dog fight, I think Friday will be the same. No prediction, just hope for a good game, and no injuries for either squad. I am proud of being a Vikings and always will be, threw thick and thin.
Is it true VC is getting a new coach next year? I keep reading about that.

Because a lot of people think he is too much of a "good guy" and "first class" person to inexplicably just go and lay the whipping stick on another team when they're down. IMO, he needs to let the little light come on in his head and let it all fly as he has a helluva lot better team than the record indicates. "LET IT RIP"

sport i disagree on 3 points.
1. if you are going to win, 1 point is all you need. it's a W at that point.
2. there are kids who hardly ever play and this is their time to get in and get dirty they have moms and dads too.
3.your best players can get hurt on a needless play and not be there when you really DO need them, remember dave poole getting hurt a few years ago?
call it class or character but it shows more when you win than when you lose.

I guess I'm too "Old School" then. Other teams can beat you (example: Athens by more than 30 and not call off the dogs) because of better talent but when you have better talent, you're essentially telling your team not to play hard and put up a lot of points on teams you are superior too because of class & character ? From the high school perspective let's just say most coaches don't buy or go by that philosophy. I've seen most of the State championship games over the last 20 years and have never seen a coach call off the dogs in some of the blowouts and there have been plenty over the years, and do you think they got to the championship games by letting up during the year, I think not. Bottom line: If you coach any sport, you're in it to win. If not, then you better get out before someone forces you out.

let me say something for athens. they did put in jv's in the 4th quarter and so did meigs. maybe i'm older school but i was always told "yes win but allow the other team dignity because someday that will be you". my sport was baseball and when the game was out of hand you did NOT stretch singles or show up your opponent because you would put the next guy up in the hit zone. and i want to say there are kids especially in the larger programs who hardly ever play on friday. they sweat in august too. if they can get in a coach should let them play. they may be the stars in 3 years. the moms and dads pay and work and sacrifice to see their kids play just as much as any parent. let em in. you get the win for 1 point. you don't get extra points for 40+. i for 1 am glad we have a coach who knows meigs ain't in the superbowl. maybe that's why he has a great rep.

That type of ball doesn't sound "competitive" to me, sounds like "recreational ball". Society has gotten to the point that because little Johnny paid his $35.00 he deserves to play. In Tee ball today all the kids have to bat no matter how many outs there are & all of them play the field every inning. In Little League everyone must bat at least once and play the field for 3 outs in a game. In Biddy league football there are weight limits for running backs regardless of age because they might hurt someone if they weigh too much. High school is the last bastion of competitive sports for most teenagers and if little Johnny wasn't good enough but played anyway when he was smaller, tough luck. Try out for the team and if you're not good enough to play a lot so be it. If you start running high school sports like they do the recreational leagues then don't expect to win anything very often and a lot of towns and high schools are in this boat. I guess that's why in the last 20 years or so "Travel Teams" in all sports have taken off and the rec leagues have been left behind in a lot of towns. Yes, it costs parents a lot more money for tournaments, travel, lodging, food etc. but most will sacrifice that for good competition and to make their child better by exposing them to athletes that are as good or better than they are which in turn pushes them to get better if they really want to stick with a favorite sport and excell at it at least throughout high school. Pay you dues, you'll get noticed if you're good enough, the way it is now every kid thinks they should "letter" from freshman year on up, that's not the way it works on most successful teams.

again i hate to disagree with you but i have to say overall meigs IS a sucessful team and chancey IS a sucessful coach. i hope if you have kids they are wonderful athletes and never ride the pine. i say again no kid goes through 3 months of workouts just to watch and most starters are at 1 time reserves. let the kids play ALL OF THEM.

I think Meigs ground game runs at will this evening and chalkes up win #2 on the year. Good luck to both schools.

Hey, I had to cut my own kid from one of the travel teams I coached over the years so yeah, it's hard to do but good competition is the best preparation for life.
