Sorry but im not bitter about where trimble is on the list.Im not bitter about the list at all.It just really looks out of sort to me thats all.I just think strength of schedule would have more points than running up the score on weaker teams or teams half your size. Its no big deal to me i woulnt post on this topic anymore. have a nice day :12223

Boilermaker you said early in the year that Wellston would beat Nelsonville,Minford, Jackson tell me now why they will beat Athens because I can not see it unless there coach finds away to use the talent they have and my friend they have talent but they will not win playing like they did last week.

There is no reason why Athens shouldn't win this game, but they will not win this game by 30 or whatever some of you guys on here are posting. Wellston is a scrappy team and has played tough and hard nosed all year, despite the 2-4 record. It isn't like Athens has played the toughest schedule in se ohio. They are 6-0 but let's be honest here. They haven't played anybody with a winning record except Alexander, and their schedule is just as weak. I'm not knocking your team because they can play a little or they wouldn't be undefeated. All I'm saying is that this should be a tough game for the bulldogs and if they don't come ready to play, they are going back to The Plains with a loss. On the flip side, the rockets need to put together four quarters or they are gonna get embarassed. My heart is with the rockets but they got their hands full.

My ole buddy Flash -G ,,,,,
Well I dont know where to begin. Ill start with last week . Wellston played good enough to win.The defense only give up 177 total yards to the Vikes. In which 42 yards came on a reverse to #12 when Wellston was trying to spot sub on defense.Offensively The Rockets gained 300 yrds and scored 33 points. The Vikes did outplay my Rockets on special teams in the first half scoring 14 of their points.Adjustments in the second half shut # 12 down for the Vikes on special teams.
Now the early season predictions. Yes I said they would win them all, after all what am I supoosed to say? We are going to lose. NOT ME . Other than the second half of the Nelsonville game Wellston had their chances to will all those game . A break here or there and the Rockets win a couple of those first four games.
Back to this friday's game With the Athens Bulldogs . I feel real good about our chances . The Rockets are going to be fired up and ready ,as will the Bulldogs im sure. The Rockets can play loose and I beleive they will .Wellston is getting healthy too, other than a minor injury or two from saturday's game.. I hope this clears things up for you , I know its difficult being from Vinton Co. to understand.

GO ROCKETS!!!!!!

Boilermaker-
Are you the only wellston guy who posts on the wellston threads. I've been reading this forum since the beginning of this season and you are about the only one who posts anything positive on Wellston? My hats off to you. I really don't like the fact that there aren't more Wellston posters on here. I hope this lack of support hasn't carried over into the big 'W' and in the bleachers on friday nights.

Roadrunner ,Thanks for the comments.
I think you have hit the nail right on the head. I dont mean posting on here.I mean community support. There is some in Wellston ,but nothing like for instance Nelsonville. When you go to Buchtel on a friday night there is always a big crowd ,people tailgating .The community lives for friday nights. It has never (since ive been in Wellston 1974) that way here. You have nice crowds most games . I will say there are some "Old Timers" that have always been there .They attend every game and love this time of the year.
You look at the successful programs in S-E Ohio and you will find a community that puts its FULL support behind the program.

Roadrunner,

Just because there isn't a lot of posters from Wellston on here doesn't mean we have no support for the team. After all, this is just a stupid internet forum where immature adults like to pick arguments hidden behind their computer screens. I hope people aren't judging community support off of number of SEOPS users nowadays.. lol

Wellston can win this one if they don't give Athens a short field, and play some good defense. Athens has capitalized all year on short field position. This one might be close, with all respect to the Athens fans. Athens should win, and I'm picking Athens, but Athens should not be talking about week 8 yet (unless you're from Wellston).

Good luck to both teams (and Boilermaker) and have a great game.

im not trying to make an excuse but wellston is famous for its officiating, and if athens loses i will only blame the players because its completely their fault. it should be a good game, and wellston really does deserve more support they've played some tough opponents very close good luck to them for the rest of the season... after week 7 that is =p

I'm not basing Wellston support strictly off of seop posters. I know that support for Wellston football isn't as strong in the community as it is in N-Y and Jackson. Having grown up there, I know how the crowds are at the home games (with the exception of the Jackson game). Judging the support of the rockets based on this forum would be as intelligent as going to the Wellston forum for valid information about the community lol.
Anyways, back to the game. I look for it to be a good one. If Wellston can keep Athens off the field, they have a legitimate chance to win this game imo. I look for them to be playing with confidence after winning two in a row. Athens is no slouch and will be playing at a high level, too. I am interested to see if they can come out and take care of business after the big win against Alexander.

Athens comes in with (6) wins and is feeling on top of the world. Last week they denied Alexander a chance to go undefeated. Wellston comes in riding their first winning streak of the season after finishing off Vinton County last Saturday...

For Athens:
Get the run goin'...what no one even mentioned about last week's performance was that The 'Dogs didn't have to rely on Harris' arm to win the contest. This is huge, because if Athens can chew up the yardage and clock, they will win this ball game on the strength that their Tenacious D will not allow many scores...

For Wellston:
Keep it close, and play a full game. No opponent Athens has faced this year has kept it close after Halftime. That is a huge relief to not have to worry about scoring when you have a comfortable lead. If they can keep it close and pull off some turnovers, an upset might just be in the clouds...

I like Athens in this one, for two things...
Coach Adams and his D Coordinator Coach Goodwin have the Dogs Defense playing its best football I have seen in over 6 years...the D doesn't like to allow teams to get into rhythm which is vital to their success. The 2nd, is Athens can score points, which bodes well if you have slips in Special Teams or Defense and allow the opponent to score. I look for this game to be close for 3 quarters, both teams pounding the ball, a lot of clock gettin' burned early. However, I feel that the Athens D will take over in the fourth and put the game away...

ATHENS -- 41
WELLSTON- 26 F

I always thought the turn out for Wellston games was pretty good. Over the years i have seen away games the Wellston had more fans than the home team. You will have rumbleing and grumbleing when the record is not good but on friday nights the town turns out for the boys.
