Re: paging coach amyx
I heard he actually wanted out the season his son graduated, but he saw how good the Angle,Mays class was doing and figured he would stick around to see how far he could take them,,didn't surprise me any when he announced it,his motto was the old Woody Hayes phrase "they might be smarter than me, but by god they're not going to out work me" and work he did...I remember him lamenting all the hours he had to put into it that most people would never dream off,he actually knew what play the offense was most likely to run before the ball even snapped from tendencies and formations,,who knows maybe the bass will out smart him then he will get tired of fishing and he will decide to come back,,I'm sure Chieftain nation will welcome him back with open arms, but for now must move on
Re: paging coach amyx
Someone needs to bring cosch amyx back to logan football. coach kelly will be done after this year i think. in two years he may win 5 games come on he cant teach his kids nothing at all.
Re: paging coach amyx
What do you guys have against coach Amyx? He saw what was coming got the heck out now you guys want to drag him back into what he escaped! Come'on Houdini put the chains back on and hold your breath longer. He escaped just in time. If you try to bring him back he will hide out at guantanamo bay and take up water boarding. :122246

Re: paging coach amyx
Amyx recommended Coach Wolfe as his replacement when he left. Can't see him coming back IF Kelly is let go. Wouldn't look right and I don't think that's his style. Now, would he consult if asked.....?
Re: paging coach amyx
Bring in a complete new staff with new ideas! of coruse some say i know nothing!
Re: paging coach amyx
A little birdie told me he's not too happy with some of the stuff going on right now himself, so he might be back just to prove he can do it again, I know a lot of people disagree, but I still don't believe the talent on defense is good enough this year even for Dale, way too many long runs and broken tackles shows me lack of team speed to run them down and strength to bring them down if they do get there and the speedier players they do have are undersized, Even though sometimes they do stuff I don't agree with I still want too give them the benefit of the doubt because frankly there's no guarantee another coach would do any better at this point,I still think they can win four games which is an improvement over last year so its starts this week,all their losses are to very quick/and or big teams so excluding Alder it could be a better ending and a little confidence going into next year....
Re: paging coach amyx
Bolt, I some what agree, talent yes it is only average at best. What I saw this past Friday was a basic lack of fundmentals and also some speed will cover up some of the defence deficientes. I still believe in teaching the very bacises at the lowest level and with a team like this any coach must keep it simple. At the begining of this year I though they had a chance at a 6-4 or 5-5 record. But a lot of major problems occured which should have been corrected. At best the Chiefs only have two winable games left and a slight chance in this friday nights game.C-Bolt wrote:A little birdie told me he's not too happy with some of the stuff going on right now himself, so he might be back just to prove he can do it again, I know a lot of people disagree, but I still don't believe the talent on defense is good enough this year even for Dale, way too many long runs and broken tackles shows me lack of team speed to run them down and strength to bring them down if they do get there and the speedier players they do have are undersized, Even though sometimes they do stuff I don't agree with I still want too give them the benefit of the doubt because frankly there's no guarantee another coach would do any better at this point,I still think they can win four games which is an improvement over last year so its starts this week,all their losses are to very quick/and or big teams so excluding Alder it could be a better ending and a little confidence going into next year....

It isn't like Amyx never had losing seasons
1990 = 2-8 (first year)
1995 = 2-8
1996 = 3-7
1997 = 4-6
Was everyone calling for Amyx's head when he had a couple of rough seasons in the 90's? Look what he did throughout his coaching career.
I'll tell you this. I happen to know Coach Wolfe personally very well. There is not one person that bleeds Purple & White more than he. It is something that is always on his mind. I know he is frustrated with the season just like the rest of us, and putting posts on here that are negative about his coaching, or the teams lack of commitment, discipline, talent, or whatever doesn't really get us very far. Someone made the comment that this is the new "Barbershop talk spot" and that is true. But know that this "Barbershop" is being read by more than just people posting. Barbershop comments and talks stayed in the barbershop in the past, now they are public for everyone to see. Players and coaches alike read these posts as well. It doesn't help the teams confidence when people say they have no shot at anything but 0-10 season.
GO CHEIFS!! Know that someone in Atlanta roots you on every week! Thanks Locos for the Twitter feeds to constantly check the score!

Now i have never seen a coach that coaches like coach kelly. It cant be that hard to show you kids to tackle another player now come on. I think there going to go 0-10 and they need to find a differnt Qb to bc he thows to many bad passes in one game. amyx was a better coach.

From personal experience, the hardest fundamental in football to coach is tackling.5kdude wrote:[

I have 15 years football coaching experience and 11 of those at the high school level.
Tackling is far harder than most fans could even imagine to teach. If it was easy to teach, wouldn't all teams at all levels be good at it?
There is far more athleticism involved in making a good tackle than one might think. There is much more to it than running into someone and putting your arms around them. There is a sequence of events that have to happen in a very short fraction of a second. Getting in power position, fire up through keeping your head up (which is completely unnatural with the movements your body is making), rolling hips, "grabbing cloth" on the other side and running your feet through the ball carrier.
There is far more to it than just know how to tackle. You have to have read your keys, and put yourself in a position to be able to make the tackle. You have to flow to the ball, while flowing to the ball you avoid blockers, and fallen bodies.
Once you "get there" you have to recklessly abandon any care for your body and your own safety (except head up) to propelling your body violently into someone who is running at full speed in the opposite direction. You have to be fearless, you can not worry if you smaller than the ball carrier or not. You have to all that behind you and put yourself in harms way, selfishly.
All that in what is usually less than five seconds.
Not all kids have that desire and athleticism in them!
Don't always blame the coaching. I coached against coach Amyx (utmost respect and admiration) and coach Wolfe. Give Wolfe credit, he knows how to coach tackling, he did it with Amyx for years even though he was the OC.
Sorry for my rant, just sticking up for the coaching fraternity. Not always the coaches fault.
Re: paging coach amyx
I also agree. Tackling comes down to having the "apples" to WANT to tackle someone. A guy can teach all he wants, but if a kid does not have the desire to tackle...

If you don't have the desire to tackle --is he worried about getting hurt????????
