Tigers90, Just Catholic schools? what about Christian schools and other private schools? Do you think Clev. Glenville doesn't recruit.

Glenville is the best allstar team in the state.
No private school(no I did not go to one)can match them for"transfers in".

Response on freehuddle.com to my question about ALTER.

The majority of the Alter players went to the parochial grade school feeder schools of St. Albert (Kettering), St. Charles (Kettering - next to Alter HS), Incarnation (Centerville) and Bishop Leibold (Miamisburg). Others have moved in from out of state (parents got transferred to WPAFB), others went to Kettering government schools but were in CCD and played on the Jr. High South Dayton Knights team, one transferred from Bellbrook after having rules problems there, one came from another parochial Jr. High and his dad is an Alter alum and a current asst. coach and a couple others have parents who pay their way to go to Alter from other schools - none of these players start. I don't know the exact number of transfers during their HS years, though I know the 2 from Alabama and the one from Bellbrook probably meet that criteria, and all three are/were legit parental decisions. According to the official 2009 Alter roster I have in front of me:
Total players (grades 10-12): 71
St Albert players: 16
St. Charles players: 23
Incarnation players: 21
Bishop Leibold players: 2
St, John XXIII players: 1 (non-starter)
Montgomery Catholic (Mobile, Alabama) players: 2 (starter and special teams starter)
Kettering Middle School players: 1 (special teams starter)
Van Buran (Kettering) players: 2 (1 starter, 1 non-starter)
Bellbrook Middle School players: 1 (starter)
Wantz Middle School players: 1 (non-starter)
Miami Valley School: 1 (non-starter)

All members of the team are squeaky clean and legit.

Ditto here in Ohio - 2 yrs ago maybe, or 3? And all the towns that year were small-med size [not big cities or big-city suburbs], too. Newark the Div I winner?

P.S. - Sorry, I remembered the wrong sport. I still say that OHIO has a pretty good system basing playoffs and championships on school size [rather than public/private] - and crowning 6 State Champions overall

Correct Earp, all 4 2008 state bkb champs in Ohio were public schools (Nerk, Chilly, Ottawa-Glandorf, and New Knoxville)... the Public/Private debate is never ending, particularly on sports forums such as this. "Fair" or not, it is the current system in Ohio, and while a team like Massie may appear to have very little chance in this sort of matchup, one just never really knows.

The public/private issue is the deadest horse in Ohio HS football.

I hate even talking about this subject, but I will throw my 2 cents in on this one.

NCF, just some food for thought, Cle. Glenville is VERY similar to a small school in Portsmouth. I believe the official name is Sciotoville Community School. The "proper" name for Cle. Glenville is Cle. Glenville Academy Campus. Niether of these schools are actual districts. So, techniqually ALL their students are "transfers"

There are many public schools that benefit from transfers. Ironton has had transfers from other parts of the county.
As far as the debate between fair and unfair, I say if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. If "the best" is a Catholic/Private school with a starting line-up choc full of transfers, so be it.

I will give you that but I think you know better then to think those young men are going there for sports first.

Some do go to schools for sports...only!!!

I know that there are some schools in our area that are really good in Baseball...Greenup Kentucky and Louisa Kentucky...There have been some schools that have been good at basketball..Ironton at football....and basketball of late...and yes there have been transfers that have come in just for that reason...Their parents have believed that they are good enough to get a look from colleges and they need to get on a stage that someone would see their child...

I understand it is going to happen...but when your whole team is made up of transfers...that is when I get upset...Maybe I am wrong....but for a school to win the state with their own kids anymore is a thing of the past...in most cases...

It seems like to me that if you're Catholic and/or your parents are willing to fork out the money it takes for you to attend a Catholic school, that you should be allowed to attend whatever Catholic school you want to attend.
Also, most serious athletes at any school think about sports a lot more than they do academics. I'm sure most football players would rather play football at OSU than they would at Harvard, even though the education is supposedly better at Harvard.
Just look at the emphasis our society as a whole puts on sports. Look at the salaries owners can afford to play football players or basketball players or baseball players.

My point is has anyone seen how many of the current Alter players have been there since the beginning ir since Jr. high.

And for the record Alter is not a team that I root for.

Alter has recently lost a lot of really good players from their feeder program (7th and 8th grades) to multiple local D1 high schools, and they have also lost a couple of recent transfers who attended Alter that are on D1 college scholarships --- and they DO NOT RECRUIT. I know this for a fact. What they have is a lot of kids that have stuck with the program and work really hard. You liberals might try that sometime, and you need to get your facts straight.

Thanks for the info and for the record I was not trying to say they recruit I was trying to tell others they should not think that they do.
