Football season is finally over after 15 weeks and we have our 6 Division State Champions.
Just for fun, what if we had a Week 16 and narrowed that list down from six to three champions, kind of like it used to be when we had three divisions......AAA, AA, and A? Who do you think would win these matchups?
Class AAA
Hilliard Davidson - (13-1) Division I State Champions
vs.
Cincinnati Winton Woods - (13-2) Division II State Champions
Class AA
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney - (15-0) Division III State Champions
vs.
Kettering Archbishop Alter - (15-0) Division IV State Champions
Class A
Youngstown Ursuline - (11-3) Division V State Champions
vs.
Norwalk St. Paul - (15-0) Division VI State Champions
Which three schools do you think would still be standing after a hypothetical Week 16?

Re: Hypothetical Week 16 - Who would win these matchups?
My picks would be...
Davidson
Winton Woods is more talented but hey, so was Glenville, by a lot, after seeing this program and this coach over the last few years I will NEVER bet against them.
Mooney
Alter is good but Mooney may be the best team in the state regardless of division. Maybe.
Ursuline
WAY too many athlets for St. Paul. WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY to many.

I'm a believer in Davidson after watching them on TV against Glenville. Winton Woods is very athletic but only had to throw the ball twice against Maple Heights. Davidson pretty much shut down Glenville's ground game so I see them keeping Winton Woods ground game in check.
Davidson 24
Winton Woods 14
Class AA
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney - (15-0) Division III State Champions
vs.
Kettering Archbishop Alter - (15-0) Division IV State Champions
Mooney might be the best team in the entire state regardless of division. Alter has a solid defense but cannot match up with the linemen of Mooney. I think Mooney would just overpower Alter in a blowout.
Mooney 42
Alter 13
Class A
Youngstown Ursuline - (11-3) Division V State Champions
vs.
Norwalk St. Paul - (15-0) Division VI State Champions
I can't believe how many athletes Ursuline has for a division 5 football team. They have way too much speed for St. Paul to hang with.
Ursuline 49
St. Paul 20

I think Davidsons' offensive scheme is very hard to prepare for because you just dont see it that much anymore in the age of spread offenses!

Re: Hypothetical Week 16 - Who would win these matchups?
Davidson would beat Winton Woods. Winton Woods has talent, but no where near as much talent as Glenville. You watch Glenville and Davidson, and you think that Davidson is going to get run off the field, yet they hang tough, make the plays they need to and find a way to win.
...... Besides, even if Winton Woods found a way to be on top, Davidson would still score late, go for 2, and win the game.... Isn't that how it always goes for Davidson in the State Championship?
Alter is a very good program (back-to-back titles) but Mooney would be just TOO much for them. I believe that Mooney may be THE best team in the State, regardless of size. Braylon Heard is a special athlete who can break any game open, and yet he isn't even the teams leading rusher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ursuline seemed to have blazing speed and big-time playmakers every where. St. Paul was a nice team, but they could not hang with them. Ursuline just has too many great athletes. Every time you turn around there was a different kid from Ursuline outrunning everyone to the endzone.
So..........
To Rank my State Champions I say:
1. Mooney- Yeah, I know they are small, but their roster is D1
2. Davidson- Gotta love a coach who will go for 2!!!!
3. Winton Woods- Much improved from early part of season
4. Alter- Very good repeat champion
5. Ursuline- Might possibly be able to knock off Alter for 4th spot
6. St. Paul- Good team who won a dramatic game..... but they are a definate 6th on my list
