Re: Green Bobcats
Green has a good crop of football players but they need a good coach. their coach resigned, From what i hear they, as of now don't have one. I would like to see kyle Mcknight take the job. I don't see that happening.
Re: Green Bobcats
Coach Mercer is a close friend and I talked with him yesterday. He did a wonderful job at Green.
He has deep feelings for the school and football players. If he could have had more full time coaches with him,
his success would have been even greater for the Green community. He is worried about the Green football program and does want to leave it in the best hands possible.
Good luck Coach, I know you will enjoy watching your grand children. I wish you the best of everything.

Re: Green Bobcats
Its suprising to hear that Mercer isn't back for another year, I heard very recently from the Ad that he was coming back for another year
Re: Green Bobcats
Knowing Coach Mercer as I do, he will not leave until everything he believes in, is taken care of.
Re: Green Bobcats
The name I hear is Dan McDavid ,he will be the new baseball coach. has allready been hired for that job.
Re: Green Bobcats
Green should never forget coach Mercer, if not for him Green would not havce been able to field a Football team !
Re: Green Bobcats
The last time I saw Coach Mercer on the football field, he had told me before the game against Notre Dame that he was confident that Green could win if ND did not air it out.
At the start of the 3rd quarter, ND went into its Air Assault and quickly scored, He turned around and looked at me in the stands with both arms up as if to say, "that's it, I told you so."
After the game I told him that his only mistake was taking a 7-6 lead into half time.

BTW, Chris would run the same offense for Green that ND ran in 2009 versus Green...
...the Tony Franklin System...
...he could also bring the veer offense with him since he has detailed knowledge of that with his year with Coach Copley at Greenup in 2009.
Green needs to call him SAP.
Re: Green Bobcats
He might be the right fit for green, if he bring's his own crew. He is going to need some good assistants, If he don't, he will end up like mercer with losing seasons every year. the assistants that he had was never at practice, you could go to practice and it would be mercer by himself, and thats just not possible for one person to coach the whole team by himself.

I hope not. The program deteriorated under him before and will probably kill it now if it is offered to him. He is a good fellow but not a good FB coach.

...he will have assistants...
...SEOPers might know his defensive coordinator and offensive line coach...
First, he needs to apply. He will probably lose money coming across the river if he is hired here as Green can only pay the State minimum.
Mercer was the best coach we have had since Newsome in the late '80's and although he had so little talent to work with, he made them better players as well as people.
Re: Green Bobcats
coach sheridan, i think was the best, and was the winningest coach here lately. people didn't like him because he was a ruff coach. you can't powderpuff a bunch of kids in practice all week, and put a winning football team on the field on friday nite. it don't work that way.

Seriously, Newsome in the late 80's? I don't see how you get that. I believe his statement when he left Green in 87-88 was that he didn't see the program going anywhere and then the 2 best seasons in Green's history occurred in the next couple of years. Newsome did nothing for Green in the 80's. Now in the 70's I hear he did a good job. Also, if McDavid was so terrible he would have screwed up the 2 successful seasons. I am not saying McDavid is Vince Lombardi, but he does a good job working with kids and does not get in the way of success. He was also motivational as well.

i agree 100%
Re: Green Bobcats
If Dan McDaivd wants to be the head coach
football coach he will get the job no matter
who else would apply. Newsome left because
the school was going to do away with sports.
