Still too many questions...
Shank - QB or RB?
Shears or Luster - Ready to be QB?
Whitley - moving out of state?
O'Brien/Hood - Ready for RB?

We know the defense should be good and the O-line will be experienced and very good and Shank will have a great year, but still some unknowns at the skill positions. Replacing Craigmiles, Walker, Hall and Lang are not easy shoes to fill.

Here is one question I can answer for you. Whitley is gone after this school year. He is moving to Virginia to live with his Dad who took a job there. I believe he is going to go to Salem High School there.

It is true..Whitley is "planning" on moving to Virginia..heard that from a reliable source..but we all know these are kids and they change their minds a lot.

It is a family's decision whether to follow the jobs to another state, not a high school student's.

I would totally agree and that appears to be the situation here. I hate to see him go...really do.

Heck of an athlete. May have been a key part for Burg this year. A big loss.

Burg should have a great returning line. The first three games are very tough. After the beating that the Trojans took last year, they will try to score as many as possible. Burg has a lot of questions at the skill positions. Shankwiler is a great back or QB but the injury he had was very serious. Losing Whitley was big. It should be an interesting year. You can see a good scenario and you
can see a possible 6 loss season. Isn't that what makes high school football interesting. A real test for the coaching staff.

i was at the jr. high football camp on mon. and the varsity players about (12 or 13) were there helping ---most of them lineman/ends. i was impressed with their size. big but in very good shape. also shank was working with the youngsters and he looked bigger than last season. but most of all i thought they did an excellent job coaching-up and spending time with the kids.

I think the Burg will be better then most expect. This group of Seniors will show alot of heart that i think last years team was missing. They will have a lot of players that will fill in nicely in most of the positions. Of course it will be hard to replace the speed that they lost. Having a O-Line that are 3 year starters will be a Big plus. They will have a lot of boys going both ways this year that didn't see a hole lot of playing time last year because of the amount of seniors that was on the team last year. They have some talented boys that most poeple dont think about and they will suprise alot .

8-2 or 7-3 with a decent run in the playoffs against what is a tough schedule

Sounds like a coaching challenge to me. On Burg's schedule 7-3
after the loss of all the players would be very good. 3 possible
Ls in the SOC II and 3 out of conference.

No more of a challenge than having to replace a big chunk of your oline and one of the most talented and successful qb's in your schools history.

I dont see the schedule as challenging at all for Wheelersburg. You got Ironton and Portsmouth at home, then you basically play the OVC abd SOC combined. A good schedule for the AD as far as travel, but for a school that has dominated it's conference, I dont see it that challenging. I say anything less than 8-2 would be disappointing.

very difficult schedule. Having Ironton at home helps but Ironton is Ironton no matter where they play. Portsmouth returns a ton of talent and may turn out to be the best team in scioto co. Oakhill scheduled the burg for a reason this yr, they think they have the talent to win. Oakhill is a very tough place to play, ask minford about 09. West returns alot of talent and arguably the best player around. Minfords program has arrived and they are not going to be a pushover any longer. They beat a burg team last yr that based on talent they probably should have lost to by a couple scores. The 2010 burg team looks to be very good but I would not be shocked if they finish 6-4. 8-2, 9-1 would be one heck of a job by the coaches and players.

Wheelersburg has a great tradition, but lately they have not dominated the conference. In the last 4 years hasn't there been 4 different conference champs. this isn't the 90's anymore. There are
very few gimme games in the SOC II anymore.

West will be very tough this year if they can put together a solid line. Based on the talk over there, they will have a solid line that Pendleton can run behind this year. I think they are the pre season team to beat in the SOC.

Minford will be tough. There will be an adjustment for some kids to make that are playing other positions, but they will have alot of skill players back this year. The big question will be the line.

Oak Hill- they will be tough again this year. They will return skill players as well, should have another solid line this year.

Valley- dont sleep on them. Last year they started alot of underclassmen and this year those juniors and seniors are back with alot of hunger from losing close ballgames last year and not making the playoffs.

Ironton will be a load this year. I believe this class is what brought Lutz back to the Tank. They will be a major player in Southern Ohio this year.

Portsmouth will be tough. This is probably the best team they have fielded since the early 2000's and we all know the talent they had 10 years ago.

I think that Minford, Valley, Portsmouth, Ironton, West and Oak Hill can all make the playoffs this year. That is a tough schedule for Burg this year when over half of your schedule could get in to post season play. If Burg goes 8-2 they could have alot of computer points too.

Burg should still be solid this year they always field good teams. This year they have experience on the line and that can take you a long way. Shank is as good as it gets in SE Ohio at either RB or QB. I think they will go 8-2 or 7-3 with only loses to (Portsmouth, Ironton, and maybe West). They will be a top 4 seed in their region if they go 8-2 in my opinion.
