Im clearly saying that wellston isnt much than vinton county, but they have won 2 yrs. and a row....and if you want to talk about injuries? jaylen prater was hurt on the last drive of the last scrimmage last yr. and didnt come back to play till week 6 against your beloved vikings where he had minium playing time. I would love to see them get this rivilary back to what it used to be but without a good coach for either team it wont happen!

The 2004 team had their share and the difference in that team and the 90's teams imo, the 04 team have better skill position players and the 93 team had a better line and total defense. The Vikings are completely different than the 90's teams...they need a coach who understands that they cannot run it on 1st and 2nd down and throw a screen pass or sland to the same player on 3rd down. Things have to be changed and players need to be utilized better. Hopfully the new coach can get the most out of the boys this fall.

You really think the 04 team had better skill players than 93??

Both Wellston and VC need an outsider with some guts to come in and change the culture that permeates both schools. Does either school have a weight program?

Wellston has a great weight program, led by Coach Hutch. and Jason Prater! The only problem is only a few players have been going.

One superstar and one coach does not a weight program make.

are you refering to jaylen as the superstar? because if i recall he played 3 1/2 games this past year. players like austin osborne, and jeremiah kerr are what makes the weight program work not just jaylen. And actually there are two great coach's there!

I just hope they can get a coach in there that will make them competive and renew the rival with my golden rockets like it was in this early decade!

Ask him. There are rumors flying around. The only thing I know is that if he had stayed, he would have been a three game difference for us, we don't lose to Unioto, Wellston, Bloom Carroll or Alexander, or both.

goldenboy wrote:Prater came to Wellston to win. Your right if he stays healthy he could be the tvc ohio POY.

He also plays basketball, how much winning his he doing there? Again, if he had stayed he would have already been part of one TVC Championship and a sectional championship, and in the hunt for another. I will go out on a limb and say if he was here, he could "possibly" be a part of two future championships.

Rumors are flying!

Dundas wrote:The only place Prater can go and continue to play football this fall is back to VC. If he goes anywhere else he will have to sit out this coming season.

According to the OHSAA, he has five options; first, stay put. Second, come back to Vinton County without penalty. Third, go to a selective enrollment school without penalty. Four, go to another district and sit for one year. Lastly, the family must move and establish residency in the school district in which he wishes to play in order to avoid sitting out for the school year.

We were in the game against Wellston this past season, it was Prater, he was the difference in that game.

Vinton County has hired Jarrod Bailey as our strength and conditioning coach and he is very good.

Know them both, great guys. I love Jason Prater, he has been like a little brother. I hope they are retained.

If we ever get our ducks lined-up, reduce the culture of fatalism, get more kids involve and those that are involve, stronger. There will be a day of reckoning.

From what I have heard, the decision should be coming VERY soon! My hope is that whoever gets the job will try to find the talent that each player has and use it. Try ALL players at ALL positions - you might get surprised!

I saw ALOT of kids stand on the sidelines the past couple of years that NEVER got on the field during a varsity game. IMO, a game that has gotten out of hand so far that coming back for a win is not much of an option, is a PERFECT opportunity to put in some of the less experienced players. KNOCK THE GREEN OFF OF EM! Would like to see more kids involved whether winning or losing. I realize that the win is important, don't get me wrong, but NOTHING can take the place of experience on the field. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!

Justy Burelson out of South Gallia is a name that keeps getting kicked around. Don't know if its definite but I'd say there's a better then average chance he'll be the next head football coach at VC.

Justy is a very good coach. He is hard nosed and runs a great weight program. He was coached by several big time coaches in High School and college. I believe Gruden was an assistant when he played for Tennessee. Not for sure, but I think that is right. He turned a very dim program into two state playoffs. If he leaves South Gallia I wish him the best. It would definitely be a good respectable coach for any program.
