Have some close friends in the Cincy area, the info I receive from these "sportsjunkies" is that Wilmington will have a down season, with lots of seniors gone from last season, especially in the skilled spots. It remains to be seen come Sat, but I like the Trojans chances

Trojans should win this one over a devastated Wilmington thats lost most of their jobs. Pick is by 14 or better.

He's absolutely right - and I never even thought about the effect of last year's DHL pull-out on Wilmington High School's football [or athletics in general] team. Also "school size". Doesn't OHSAA revise that just every 2 yrs now? I'll bet Wilmington High School is not all that much bigger than Portsmouth High School any more. For sentimental reasons I have to be for Wilmington [I am indeed a proud Wilmington High School Hurricane alum!]; but I have to be a little bit for Portsmouth, too.
After all, Ironton potentially can get "points" based on Portsmouth's record but not on Wilmington's.

I feel for the Wilmington area for the loss of many jobs, because in our Portsmouth area we have experienced the same thing over the last 30 years........when the steel mill left town around 1980, 5,000 jobs went with it.......and other employers have since parted ways with our hometown.......at one time (pre-1970) Portsmouth High School was the largest school in the SE District.......just since 1990 the boys enrollment has dropped from 341 to 204 (204 is actually up from 195 two years ago).......when I graduated in 1975 the enrollment had already begun to shrink but we still had 237 students in my senior class.

Portsmouth's population has gone from a census high of 42,560 in 1940 to the 2000 total of 20,909.......and all indications are that the 2010 figures will show the city to be under 20,000 residents. Portsmouth might be the smallest city in Ohio that has 3 high schools within its corporation limits.......Portsmouth High School, Notre Dame, and Sciotoville.

Hopefully the Wilmington area can recover to some extent economically, but we know from personal experience here in Portsmouth, that once jobs leave, it is really tough to get them back.......and chances are any jobs that come to Wilmington won't bring the same pay as the ones that were lost.

Don't know much about Portsmouth this year, they are usually tough, but Wilmington has a pretty big defensive line that is quick. They may have graduated a some skill but they do return some talent. Saw them in a scrimmage with Washington C.H. they Wilmington looked tough of course its only a scrimmage.

I will say Wilmington 28-21

I think Wilmington comes out and gets an early lead, but the mighty Trojans take over late in the second quater and never look back. Portsmouth-46 Wilmington-20

Good move having this game on Saturday week one.Of course I'm sure it was because of the Travel Time ;But the crowd will be tremendous, I know a lot of Siders will be their to check out the Trojans WE"RE going to beat next week. HOPE for a safe and injury free Game. P.S. better put out some extra seats.

During the Burg game last night they said we were on 99.3 so you should be able to get it here. http://stream1web.securenetsystems.net/ ... teURL=true

Air time is 6:15 I think.

Wilmington is too much for Portsmouth.
Do you say this because you know something about Wilmington or just a Trojan hater?
No I say that cause I think Wilmington will win. No reasoning behind it.
I don't hate any local school.
I like to see success by locals, Only negative for Portsmouth is their HC. I think he makes bad decisions that lead to bad losses.
I think this is one of those cases.

But good luck Trojans!
