i'm picking the grove...they have alot of return starters and very deep in all positions. Athens seems to be a little flat on their game. As for speed, the hornets have several backs running 4.6 - 4.7 forties so I don't think speed will be an issue for the grove. Oh, by the way, they also have some kids benching over 300 lbs and they are not all linemmen.

Where in the world was I comparing the OVC to the SEOAL??? Coal Grove would beat a few teams in the SEOAL this year (some very handily), but I'm not comparing conferences as a whole. My point was that Gallia is not that great of a team right now and hasn't been for a few years (and most Gallia fans would agree with that). Yes Nelsonville would beat Gallia County this year. They could have beaten them any of the last three years, probably. Nelsonville would beat a bunch if not most teams in the SEOAL this year and would have for most of the last few years.
Gallia is a team on the rise and anyone who reads my posts each football season knows that I always pull for them to have success, but I'm also a realist.

2 trap I see what you mean by the discipline at CG 4 or 5 personal fouls in the reserve game against Fairview! I sat in the stands and shook my head. Also doesnt #32 start for the varsity and he played both ways didnt understand that.

And as you and I have discussed, that is why people don't like what you post, and that is why I respect your point-of-view, and seek out your post to read them. There are a few others that fit that bill as well (you guys know who you are, I've told you so privately), but some folks feel like no one should say anything that could possibly be construed as critical or simply less than complimentary.

And with that, my only comment is if you don't want to read critical commentary, or face the facts, then don't read fuzzhead's post, my posts, or Fan-of-Sports posts on here, just as a start. I could name others, but I hope that you get my drift.......Oh, and the kids won't get that expression at all!!! LOL!

You're right "Steely", realism doesn't enter into the minds of a lot of posters on here. It's my school and my school only to some. Most of us that comment about other schools, conferences etc. that are different from our own "hometown" schools are lambasted on here. It's just our opinion but most of us have done some kind of homework to reach our conclusion before we post. It really cracks me up when people get on here and say you never played sports or you've never coached, etc. Most of us are on here because we love sports, have played the games, have coached the games, etc. so we do truly know a little about what we post. No one is an expert on here (or we'd be on ESPN), we just do it for fun and as a hobby.

Steely, since my (alma mater) White Falcons are playing @ Trimble, I'm getting off work a little early friday then heading down from C-bus the back way (Rt. 13) to Glouster for a little relaxing ride in the country. I'll probably take in the first half of that game then depending on the score head over to Nelsonville and watch the 2nd half of that game before heading back up good old Rt. 33. It should be a good night of football.

#32 for Coal Grove did not start on offense or defense @ Meigs.

The only other time these two squared off was back in 1993, when Coal Grove came away with a 36-20 victory in the 4th game of the season after starting 0-3 against Oak Hill, Gallipolis, and Wheelersburg, losing those games by a combined score of 13-93. The Hornets went on to finish 5-5 that year (3-2 in the OVC).

Would like to see the running game take over early then have the passing game open up, had some nice looks last week with the passing game just didn't complete them.

If Athens' line is really as bad as people telling me, CG will have no trouble moving it on the ground, especially up the middle. I think Athens will score points though - just going by how poorly CG traditionally plays pass defense. They need to bring pressure like they did against Meigs.
Not that I put any stock at all in it, but what's the CalPreps prediction?

Calpreps says Athens 28, Coal Grove 26. That's pretty close to what I'd predict. Plenty of scoring on both sides. Close in the end.

They are inexperienced up front. They made some adjustments at halftime last weeks that helped a lot, but they still haven't got to the point where they can depend on good blocking everyplay. I look for the D line play to be improved a lot this week...The big problem that will be exposed as the season moves on is there secondary.

I'd say Athens will probably score 3 or 4 times. No argument there. I just think CG will dominate the line of scrimmage on offense and the Hornet backs will go through and around the Athens front with relative ease. I can see this one ending up like the Meigs game last year, with CG making a few key stands to steal a "W"....

The key to this game will be if Coal Grove can defend the pass or not. If they can't Athens will roll.

highschoopsports.net has the game Coal Grove 31 Athens 21. My only problem with this is without a kicking game how do we get 31.

After a week of prep, game films and team dinners...Week II is Upon Us!

I like Athens rebounding in this one...

Athens -- 26
Coal Grove -- 14
