No disrespect to Oak Hill but if it makes you fans feel good to think you would beat Ironton then have at it. You won't be the first to feel this way. I have heard it over and over thru the years from fans of area teams that have had a good year or two say they tried to play Ironton but Ironton wouldn't play them. A common opponent doesn't mean squat as to the outcome of a game. Concentrate on the teams you do play. Continue the success you had the last couple of years and best of luck to you this year.

As anyone who follows area football can tell you, playong Ironton in week one and playing them in the later stages of the season is different. To compare scores of games just doesn't work. A close game with Burg doesn't mean the Oaks would beat Ironton, the Tigers are still three td's better than Oak Hill year in and year out

Downtown wrote:You're right Tiger Bait. Ironton does win many games based on this offense and "pholiosophy". But, my biggest concern is when Lutz does leave. I would be afraid for that man simple for the fact that he is following a legend (and in many people's eyes), a god. It's hard to follow that. I just hope they're not as hard on that man as they were on Tripplett. And Ironton will win alot of games this year based on that philosophy that has been at Ironton for over 30 years. Bleeding Red is right as well: Tradition does not win you games and in this age it's about "what have you done lately?" type of mode that has ruined many people and kids and strayed them away from a holy game. And lastly, I think it would be a great tangle, Oak Hill vs. Ironton. Agility and Athletes (with an amazing line both ways to say the least) versus the tradition and standing power of Ironton.
Just because Bob retires does not mean the Lutz coaching legacy ends, remember "GOD" had a son! :122245

Here's you a score comparison

Ironton---29
Russell---13

Ashland--61
Russel---7

Ironton--43
Ashland--6

That pretty much takes care of the score comparison concept............

This season in a Game If they played Oak Hill would beat Ironton. But what do I know I have only been around high school football for ........38 years now ;-)

Coming from a guy who picked Ashland over Ironton.

If Oak Hill is as good as they say they are then they should have had no problems coming down to the Tank and playing Ironton, I mean if they could beat Ironton there is nothing more sweeter than beating the Tigers at the Tank, just as Logan fans.

Oaks are riding an amazing 2 seasons with a good group of atheletes. These kids have played together alot and are smacking ppl in the SOC2. I think they could take Ironton, No doubt. It would be close. But pound for pound and athelete for athelete, I think this yr they could take them. Oaks have the size and speed to negate irontons option. Just like New Albany did a few yrs back in the playoffs. They are everywhere. Of course, special teams play a role but I think it would be a competitive game against two teams that have their game plan down pat! Oaks are not small. They are big on the line, not like Itwon (and Burg couldnt compare either) but they were very sound. Runner run hard and the team was focused to win! I think they could compete this year!! JMHO!

They're a good team, no doubt, but Kenton may not even make it out of Region 16; and if the playoffs started today they wouldn't even be in them... And they lost last Friday night to D IV Ottawa-Glandorf.

What about Clear Fork? Are they still in the playoff hunt? Maybe they could give the tigers a run? They have a great baseball team.

After this weekend, all this nonsense will be put to rest, Ironton by 3 scores over OH, no question. GA pummled WHS with their best player and OH beat a Praterless WHS team by a couple scores but even the WHS fans are saying only one team really beat them up badly and that was GA. Also, the Osborn kid while good was maybe the 4th or 5th fastest kid and best back GA has seen so far this early season. We will see 3 much much better when we play the Tigers this weekend and OH fans are giving him props for being a player. We will see what happens between GA and IHS this weekend but if the game is even close either way, then IHS would manhandle OH. If the worst happens and IHS beats the Blue by a couple scores (or more) then I would say IHS is 4-5 scores better than OH.

Thats crazy talk right there. No disrespect to real Ironton fans, but you would be in for a rude awakening. Both Oak Hill and Minford have alot of weapons on offense. This isnt shut down one back and win the game like it was against Burg. And Ironton couldnt stop one back in Shankweiler!

Call it what you want to, the real Tigers played last week for the first time this season, Lutz pulled his best JT and held his hand tight to the chest for Ashland. Until then they did what they needed to do to get the w. I'll say this much, I don't think OH could beat GA this year........ We will see what IHS does with us this weekend.

Kenton did lose the 1st two games of the 2002 season but beat O-G in week 9. This appears to be a classic case of a team's improvement over the course of a season... in the playoffs, Kenton hardly broke a sweat, winning 58-12, 52-14, 52-0, 48-28, and 45-13; the championship game being vs. Portsmouth West.
