Latest Ohio AP Poll

Post by Bleeding Red »

Several local teams getting well deserved attention in the state AP Polls:

In D3 Gallia Academy sneeks into the #12 spot

In D4, Ironton sits at 8th with 4 first place votes and Portsmouth West comes in at #15 in the state

In D5, Minford sits at 7th in the state with 2 first place votes with their next opponent Oak Hill right above them at 8th place with 1 first place vote. Lucasville Valley comes in the picture at 18th.

One thing that stands out in D5 Region 19, there are 5 teams from the region cracking the top 18. Kudos for giving a little respect for the teams south of I-70!

Winner of the Oak Hill - Minford game has a legitimate shot at being in the top 5 next week. I look for Ironton and West to keep climbing as well.

I put no creedence in this stuff. These people who make this stuff up do so off the top of their heads without even watching the games. Put any of these 5:19 teams in 5:20 and they are nothing special. Dont get me wrong, it's nice to see that people in AP take the time to acknowledge the fact that SE Ohio exists and there's good football down this way, but the State Semifinals usually always remove the doubt about where the best teams come from - not 5:19.

In the early 2000's Region 19 made a proud statement with Amanda winning back to back titles and making it to two more finals in the mid 2000's then Smithville (NE Ohio in Region 19) made it to the state finals a year I believe. If you look at Region 20, I would argue that it does not even come close to comparing in competition to Region 19 this season.
