Paladin's Pigskin Picks -- Wk 7

Post by Chieftain »

After 6 weeks my picks stand at 22-11. Absolutely a horrible year. This weeks games in the SEOAL have some match-ups that could be surprising. Would appear at this point that the championship will go down to the last game of the year. This week--

Ironton @ Jackson -- two once beaten teams match-up. Itown got their butts stomped good last week by Alder and Jackson is still embarassed by the opening week loss to lowly Wellston. However, the tiggers should put it to the Ironboys, who aren't all that good. Could be a very quick game as both depend heavily on the run. An easy win -- IRONTON

Portsmouth @ Marietta -- two major disappointments get together. The Trojans can't stop anyone on D and the Tigers are inconsistent. Nothing should change as this could be a shoot-out. However, must give the Trojans the slight edge because of athletes. Tigers could win, but it would have to be a major effort -- PORTSMOUTH

Chilli @ Gallia -- The Blue Devils continue the chase for the title while Chilli tries to remain relevant. Cavs have played the tougher schedule but are still struggling. However, this game might be closer than some think. Look for Gallia to take advantage of Cav mistakes in a close game -- GALLIA

Logan @ Warren -- Heres another game that could be close. Logan is just awful this year, but has played a tough schedule while Warren played too many easy teams early. While Warren could win this game and should, history with Logan hasn't been kind. Heres another game where an upset is possible. I'll go with gut instinct on this one -- LOGAN

Still no clear favorite and would appear that the last game between Jackson-Gallia will be for the title. However, the playoffs look ugly for the league. Winner of that game should get in, but I'll be surprised if others do. I'll be taking in a classic battle up North between Mentor (3-3), who beat Iggy last week and Warren Harding(5-1) who beat Euclid. Winner gets major points for the playoffs in D-I and both are poised to make it in with the win. Both teams are loaded with future D-I college players.

You haven't been paying attention, fanatic. I picked Logan to lose the first two games. However, should note at this point, that EVERYONE in SEO expected Logan to win again this year. And why not ? All three classes on the varsity has had winning records all the way thru the system. Large senior class out. Yet, they have trouble winning. Strange.

It should be noted that the schedule SHOULD remain tough. You do that to maintain the competition. There are those years where you lose ( such as this) but you need the higher competitive level so that when the talent returns, you are much better than many you play because they take the weak schedule route. This will be another woeful year for SEO when the playoffs starts, mainly because most run from competition down there . In the quest to win at any cost, most in SEO doom their programs to failure. More SEOAL titles are ahead for Logan and better seasons because they play better competition. Thats the model most of the state uses...................................... except for SEO.

As to this weeks game, look at the overall record with Warren............... only 3 wins in the ENTIRE series for the Warriors. Warren on paper should win................ I just have a hunch Logan may steal one. Best enjoy Logan while they are down. It won't be for long. That schedule will let them compete with all of SEO shortly.................. again.

Paladin.....I don't think EVERYONE in SEO expected Logan to win again. I think almost everyone respected Logan as a team who had an admirable win streak intact. Anyone who didn't respect them for that streak is jealous or stupid.

--------------------------but of course you'll be taking in mentor and warren harding, nobody knows you there. you come on here to show your pompous self, make fun of this part of the state, and cut n leave. your buddies at logan should be ashamed of you, if you actually still had one left. after the posts i've seen from you for the last several years, it must kill you speaking of gallipolis , or jackson, in terms of SEOAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. a league you are too big for anyway, or so you thought. and keep up your lil tigger jokes. we love it, hated is the purest form of flattery. you'll see us in the preseason, along with your adopted lil buddies up north. i have broken no rules in this post, i might add.

Poor old Bait. It must kill you this year. After Logan kicked your tiggers' behinds this century, you guys ran from the league and guess what -- you might have had a chance this year . Might , lol. Sorry that all those losses to Logan eats at you so bad. Good luck playing that minor league football down in, what is it again, D-IV or V ? Is that tackle or flag league in Ohio now ?

As for my football tastes, I admit I like the big time. Been up here almost 35 years. Had two star athlete sons ( Co-Capt's & All -Everything), knew the area coaches from my coaching days and am called by name at several schools I've followed over the years, including the YSU Penguins. Yes, I watch Harding, Mooney, Ursuline, Iggy, Canton McKinley, Massillon, St. Eds, etc. Even get back to Logan for a game here or there. I got to admit, I'm well known but I'll leave that to you to keep spreading the word, lol

Is someone other than Logan going to FINALLY win the SEOAL ? Oh, thats right. You guys won't. But hey, I did pick you guys to win this week( I picked you to lose last week. How did that work out?)

Thanks for the kind words Fido ( I think ).

I agree, a little honesty would improve the board, Fido.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------YOU KNOW WHAT PALADIN, last time i checked that series was vastly lopsided still in the fighting tigers favor. i didn't go anywhere , i just follwed my team. my 1 team. i'm sure your neighbors know you well, i can picture them ducking behind the bushes as you come down the street. some of these newbies might not know what all you have said, but i do. but you know what have at it. i need to take a lesson from the other 98% of this site that simply ignores you. and i will from now on, as i see this is a lone protest. wrong vs. right. you vs. me. i'm tired of it, if the people here think you are an asset to this site then i need to take my blinders off too. but calling you a man, is like saying i'm a neurosurgeon. have at it, have a blast. and well wishes.

Don't worry Bait. No one would EVER mistake you for a neurosurgeon.

Must admit, this year sucks at picks. One of my worst ever. But I'll get better come playoff time.

Its like shooting fish in a barrel in SEO when that rolls around.

Preseason polls here had Logan picked to win the SEOAL again by a WIDE margin. Discussion from most fans ( not just the ones from Logan either) projected Logan to win anywhere from 6 ( a bad season) to 9 or 10 ( a great one). I repeat, Logan was expected to win by most fans.

fanatic........... you must have had problems in school. You asked no question the first time and since you are an obvious Logan hater, you'll miss the bigger scheme of things ( as most of SEO has too) with competitive schedules. But keep searching for those cheap easy wins. The School for the Blind has open dates next year.

paladiiii if you would have address my question on the last post this would make since. it is a simple question even for you. how far into the playoffs has Logan gone ( which really is all that matters since Logan likes to beat up on the cow patty schools in the league). you know when you actually play schools close to you division...... by the way from what i've saw maybe Logan can schedule them also...

fanatic -- the tougher schedule helps TWO WAYS -- one, it developes Logan to compete for the SEOAL title with better competition, making the league schedule easier by comparasion. Second, it does in fact allow them to compete in the playoffs. No embarrassing blow-outs that much of SEO suffers in the playoffs. Logan may lose in the playoffs but recent games show they were "edged" late in a game, not embarrassed. And since they hope to improve over the coming years, the tougher schedule will stay. And now back to your hating Logan................

Hilarious. This whole argument is about scheduling, while the bigger factor - talent - has been completely ignored. Teams from in or around the bigger cities up north are going to have a higher ceiling of talent than smaller teams from the southeast, where there is a significantly smaller population. There are more private schools and there are more large schools outside of SEO. Most of the time, the more talented team will win the game no matter who they've played beforehand. As far as scheduling goes, these teams can schedule quality opponent and not have to drive 3-5 hours to play them. Teams from SEO don't have that luxury. It is an isolated part of the state.

But to make another point: I don't go to games just so I can say, "I watched at team with 'x' number of DI recruits - I'm usually at local games watching local teams who play because they love the game and for local bragging rights. Every once in a while, I'm able to say "Wow, I may have just watched a state title contender tonight" or "Wow! That kid may be good enough to play college ball!" but usually, I'm satified with saying "Man, those two teams played their guts out and I hate to see either one lose!"
I don't go to games to brag about myself getting to see it. I go to be able to cheer the kids on with other fans who love the game as much or more than I do. If I went just to see DI players, I'd just skip Fridays and go to college games. But I love high school - way more than college or pro football. In these parts, it's still pure: it's about playing your heart out for pride, not about where your next college offer is coming from...

Paladin, Why don't the mighty Chieftians schedule minor league Div. 4 Mooney or Div.5 Ursiline? You know why, they would get killed.Maybe Logan should have scheduled the blind school this year, they are terrible, and you don't need to say anything about Iggy this year they are pitiful as well. Why don't you move down south to Cincy where they play real big school football.
