Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
I dont see anyone on west schedule being a problem this year, take a look at that lineup of kids and if you know half of them you know what I mean.
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
From what I hear weights are going well, now that basketball over even more kids are making it in. I'm pretty sure there aren't any changes this year on schedule? But, I'm not entirely sure, it should be out by now, but I have not seen it. I know we have a 4 year contract with South Point and I doubt they will renew, but that will not be up until the 2012 season...I thought we had a 4 year contract with Chesapeake and I doubt it would be renewed, but I have not heard of us adding anyone.
I would love to see us add some tougher competition like we have in the past and stick with them. If we could get a couple of games against some top competition out of the area and keep Fairland, Ptown, and renew a series with Ironton, I think it would be in our best interest. I know we have only beaten Ironton once (I think), but Triplett there I think we can play with just about anyone.

Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
i talked with coach t at his daughters basketball game, in waverly. i sure did not get the impression he was going anywhere. he is very excited about the amount of talent he has coming back. and i think they'd have made a big playoff push last year, had the pendleton kid not hurt his leg. merril is an awesome coach and person, you'd be cutting your nose off to spite your face wanting him out of there. i think he is doing a great job there.
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Saw on the girls bball forum that Tripplett is going back to Oak Hill. Any truth to this????
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Doubt it very seriously, I know Triplett had a pretty long, solid tenure in Oak Hill (6 years I believe), and I haven't ever really heard the man talk negatively about his stay there, but hes a smart dude, he knows what its like to come in after someone who has success, and he knows football. West is returning 10 seniors all who have had starting experience (6 will be 3 year starters) at some point in their career and a talent Junior class under that who could be very successful. With the right breaks we could go 10-0 two years in a row with this schedule, even at worst I could see us going around 8-2 for the next years with playoff berths, and considering Oak Hill doesn't return very many players it would be bad business to leave West right now. I understand if he just wanted to take job because he liked the area or family issues, etc. and would respect it if he did, but I really don't think he is going anywhere for about 3-4 more years.
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
it will be offical on wednesday that he is not returning to west as football coach where he is going not for sure but heard he is going to rock hill or oak hill
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Before I explode on a rant if Triplett has resigned because of personal reasons (such as family), thats a different case, but if this is influenced partially by what I suspect, I may never feel the same way about my alma mater again...First, we ran off a very good coach in Mike Sammons in 04. I know that he took the Greenup job, and you can argue that he would of went there eventually anyway, but West failed to give him the support he deserved the last two years when he went 4-6 and 5-5 with a tough schedule and managed to win a part of the Soc in 03. Now we would have ran off Triplett who is a classy person, a great guy, and is also the best "players" coach I have ever seen. Most any kid that played for him would of ran through a wall for the man, and thats ultimately who its about (the kids). Have we won a state championship so far no? But we have managed to get to playoffs twice, win a league title outright, have a winning season in the past 3 years, make West relevant for the first time since the state run, get more kids out, and establish the best weight program in Southern Ohio. Is he the best coach in the world, no But, I can not think of anyone who's as good as fit at West. Hes changed the attitude with kids and program since hes been there. He took the class in 08 with tons of talent and a poor attitude, got them to coexist, and had one of the best teams in school history...this goes to show you why we can't sustain the success of schools like burg now, and the old west teams in the past. However, before put off the wrong impression if Triplett resigns because of personal reasons, that is different...but, regardless he could have been treated better by certain people.
With that being said, I can not see Triplett going to Rock Hill. I won't elaborate, I just can not see that happening, because of various reason. Besides they are looking for a coach? Oak Hill? Maybe, but if this true I could see him taking time off, if he there personal reasons he quit. Hes still has still has some good years of coaching in him, so I could see him waiting to take a job that is a little more stable or one that is one last program to rebuild. I will always root for whatever team is on the field at the Rock and whatever coach is on the sidelines, but I have to say I am very disappointed by the way coach has been treated coach.

Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
I heard today that coach T is stepping down as head coach but will remain at West in the teaching position, but Ive also heard he is going to Oak Hill and his step daughter will play there next year. Ive yet to hear it come from the coach himself I hope it aint so. Coach T will be hard to replace I hope he stays.
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
They're a pretty solid group...they have good size, a couple of kids with speed, not really any stars at this point, they are just a tough bunch of kids. I think they went 5-3 last year and out of the 3 they lost they were in every one of them with a chance to win lateWE ARE ND wrote:What does the upcoming freshman class look like?
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
The only people I have heard that have applied are: Buddy Swords (West Jv coach) and Bob Shaffer (Former Portsmouth/Notre Dame Coach/Asst as West in 2010)...Other than that I know that Scott Bricker could possibly apply, I think he has a good chance to get hired with the new school board. I'm sure it will attract some people that are in the area and out of state...who knows?UPNYA4 wrote:SO...who are the front runners for the job..?
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Honestly, I think West is going to have a very successful season regardless of who is the coach...they have a lot of talent that have been in a great weight program for 4 years...If we stay injury free, I would say 8-2 with a playoff birth at worst. Not to be arrogant but, I honestly don't see any of the Ovc schools beating us, or Northwest, or probably even Waverly (who I feel will be much improved). I think the biggest threat on our schedule is Valley, Portsmouth should be improved, Minford's wing-t is always a challenge, and Burg is Burg. I think this team could go 10-0, but it takes a lot of things going right to go 10-0 and its hard to change coaches and not lose a game.
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
It looks like West will be D5 again for the next two years. I think would rather see in D4:15 because that region has been much less competitive than 5:19, but if we can ever make a deep run in the playoffs, I feel it would be beneficial.

Cant go just by the numbers going to have to take into account the possible multipliers added by the OHSAA.
Also looks like many schools in SE Ohio lost enrollment. They will adjust the numbers to make sure the same number of teams are in each divisions.

I didn't think about this, I know we are a poor school so I would imagine we will still be division 5.sider wrote:It looks like West will be D5 again for the next two years.
