Martinsburg has done nothing wrong that we know of. The team without trouble and lawsuits should win the game. They should then have a second place game with South Charleston and Brooke played without officals and lawyers.

The rules also state that if the team bench gets involved in a fight the coach is ejected, and has to sit out the next game. Why isn't anyone talking about that?

Here is a link to a story, with video, on this by Parkersburg TV station, WTAP.

http://www.wtap.com/home/headlines/WVSS ... 13664.html

My question is this, why is the WVSSAC asking the State Supreme Court to decide who plays in the championship game? It is their tourney and they should decide. They should simply get an injunction stating who THEY feel should play and go with that, right or wrong. All schools are members and must follow their rulings or risk being banned.

Historically, the WVSSAC has no backbone in the enforcement of their own rules with their own members.

It is a shame but kids need to learn young that as a society we must follow the rules that are put in place.
My TWO cents.
The kid from Boise that got punched by Blount last year did he get any suspension? I don't think so... since the kid from hurricane started it, I think the kids from SC should not be punished for standing up for themselves... Happened to us when i played at Nelsonville-York in the '97 season... both teams talking trash on the way back to the locker room at half... Miller kids started the fight and NY kids finished it... No one got suspended because there was no film and no witnesses, but NY ultimately got the win and the 10-0 season.

The latest from WSAZ.....

South Charleston High School will not play in the Class AAA Football Championship Game.

Tuesday afternoon the West Virginia State Supreme Court ruled to uphold the suspensions of four South Charleston High School football players.

The West Virginia State Supreme Court says no court has jurisdiction in this case.

According to a news release, it is solely up to the WVSSAC on whether or not they force South Charleston to forfeit their playoff game win against Brooke High School.

Within an hour after the ruling came down, the WVSSAC sent out a release stating that a new date for the championship has been set and South Charleston will not play in the game.

The championship game will be played on Saturday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. between Brooke High School and Martinsburg High School.

"We are pleased with the expedient decision by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals allowing us to proceed with the Class AAA Football Championship Game, Gary Ray, Executive Director said. "It is our hope that this will bring closure to this issue.”

Score 1 for the rules and 0 for the lawyers.

Maybe now they will make the rules and how the refs handle things with ejections clearer in the future.

Well, hopefully it will be a good game. Too bad for SC, but the players broke the rules, and that is the bottom line.

Good call by the WV Supreme Court, they wisely considered the potential damage that could result from letting courts interfere with athletics associations. Don't like a suspension? Get a lawyer. Disagree with a game-changing penalty? Stop the game to let the lawyers settle it. Where would it end?
Again, good call.
Actions have consequences, sucks for the rest of the kids on that team. The coach should have played without those four kids and it wouldn't have been an issue. They may have even won, who knows?

Yeah, about the Africentric team... It was the 04-05 season, year in which Reedsville Eastern had probably their best bball team since they made the final four earlier in the decade...

They ended up being slotted against Africentric in the Regional semifinals up in Columbus... Eastern was actually up heading into the 2nd half, but ended up losing...

Later on, after Africentric had won in the state title game, it turned up that they had a transfer player who had been ineligible, and they got the state title stripped from them...

'Tis a shame it ended up this way... it would be nice to see how far Eastern would have advanced otherwise...

Must have been one of those years when Howdy took average talent and made them great like the person on the basketball forum said he does on occasion.

In defense of the Africentric ineligible player, he and his parents turned in all the proper and necessary paperwork with the school but somewhere in between , the high school and the ohsaa got it screwed up. It wasn't his fault and it was legitimate in the way he and his family went about.

I attended the semi-final game that year between Colerain and Brunswick which was played in Gahanna and it was a real butt whipping that Colerain put on Brunswick. They would have beaten Iggy easily in the finals.

Eastern would have won the state title that year. Eastern should have beaten Africentric, but didn't. They were the only team to even give Africentric a game.
